Publisher - linked affinity designer files change on save

Hello all,

this one is an older topic. But I am curious if anybody else is still experiencing this strange behavior?
I am working on macOS with Publisher 2 and Designer 2 (both 2.5.3) and I do have the exact same issue. It is also appearing when both programs are running. When I change something in Designer and save the document, then Publisher will pop-up a "Linked Resource Changed" message, which is good, but... Publisher resets all elements referencing that file. By resetting I mean, it will show all Layers/Elements that are inside the Designer document. This issue makes the functionality for selecting specific layers inside the designer document totally useless...

Am I doing something wrong or can someone reproduce it with current build version? @Serif Info Bot

Hi @julzzand Welcome to the forums,

Your post was split from this thread, as the bug reported in that thread as been resolved and can't be replicated following the reported steps.  So there must be something else that is causing this to happen.

As you've got some files that show the issue, could you upload them to our Dropbox here and i'll see if get the same issue.  What would also help, if you could also upload a screen recording starting from you opening the files to the issue happening.  To record your screen on Mac, see here.

thank you for replying. I have already seen the thread you posted while I was searching for solutions to this issue. This is why I am a little confused because its reported as already fixed. The only difference I can see is that I am using layers instead of artboards inside designer.
As long as you are not saving the designer document again, everything works fine.
Sorry for not posting any detailed information or uploading any screens. So here is a screen recording happening the described issue. I have also uploaded the two files to your dropbox. I hope this will help to clarify.

Hi @julzz,

This isn't a bug. 

As you are duplicating the placed file in Publisher, when you edit that file in Designer and save it, it will update the placed file and duplicated copy in Publisher, as they are both the same file.  

The other issue you posted on was to do with artboards all displaying Artboard 1, instead of artboards 1, 2 and 3.

Hi @stokerg,

the resetting of the linked file (and also the layers to show) also happens without duplicating the placed file. Maybe it is just me thinking, but if using layers instead of artboards is not the intended way of placing linked files, the ability to select different layers to show inside publisher is a little misleading or misunderstood?. Like I thought that this "issue" must be a bug or something.
