difficoltà correzione editing libro (Mac Monterey 12.7.6)

Buongiorno a tutti, 

sono nuovo, sia del forum, che di affinity publisher. Ho editato un libro di circa 300 pagine con testo e foto. Ora in fase di controllo finale non riesco, se non con estrema difficoltà, ad entrare nelle varie caselle testo. O meglio, sul testo principale nella pagina affiancata destra riesco sempre ad accedere con il doppio click, mentre su tutte le didascalie delle foto, e la pagina con il testo principale di sinistra non riesco ad accedere con il doppio click. Devo posizionare il cursore sulla pagina di destra e con le frecce ritornare alla pagina sinistra e effettuare le correzioni. Sulle didascalie delle foto a volte proprio non riesco ad entrare neanche posizionandomi sul livello. Devo sicuramente aver effettuato un qualche errore ma non riesco a capire quale. C'è qualcuno che mi può aiutare?

I assume your layer hierarchy prevents you from selecting the wanted text frame and also possibly two text frames with same size on the left page, one seems to be a master page text frame and the other appears to be below the master.

Watch out for the different markers on the left page when you have a text frames selected: At about second 20 it shows handles with 'x' symbols …

… and at second 42 it shows the usual round handles:

The 'x' handles indicate the object is a child layer of a Master layer. I assume this object is currently empty – but it appears to be in the foreground and covering the accessible text frame by clicking on the page in the layout window. What happens if you move both Master layers to the bottom of the Layers Panel?

For further screen records: Please use the built-in macOS application for screenshots and/or videos. It achieves a better quality than the uploaded whatsapp video and it also makes sure to show the entire screen, not just a detail at a time. Both makes it more clear / less ambiguous for the forum. Le maniglie "x" indicano che l'oggetto è un livello figlio di un livello Master. Presumo che questo oggetto sia attualmente vuoto, ma sembra essere in primo piano e coprire la cornice di testo accessibile facendo clic sulla pagina nella finestra di layout. Cosa succede se si spostano entrambi i livelli Master nella parte inferiore del Pannello Livelli?

Per ulteriori registrazioni dello schermo: utilizzare l'applicazione macOS integrata per screenshot e/o video. Raggiunge una qualità migliore rispetto al video whatsapp caricato e si assicura anche di mostrare l'intero schermo, non solo un dettaglio alla volta. Grazie infinite Thomaso. Ti mando la registrazione. Come avrai capito non sono molto bravo, ero bravo negli anni 80 quando programmavo in basic, ora le tecnologie mi hanno scavalcato. Ho tentato di spostare i master ma non me lo consente. Inoltre il cursore si posiziona a volte sotto il margine, devo aver combinato un disastro! Grazie per l'aiuto!

When you drag the Master layer you get a blue line at 1:11 minute. Release the mouse button at this position to move the Master layer successfully. If you can't make it you could vice-versa move all non-Master layers to a position above the Masters instead.

I still assume there are duplicate layers which may confuse and possibly prevent layers below from being selected as expected. – The Layers Panel shows 11 text layers – whereas the layout appears to have 8 only (4 per page), which may indicate 3 duplicates. To clarify the existing objects select all layers + click the eye icon of one of them to hide all layers. Then unhide one by one to detect the according object in the layout. Try to rearrange (or maybe group) the layers in the Layers Panel in a logical order of your choice for an easier overview. (e.g. left page and/or top frames first etc.)

The text cursor outside the frame can have various reasons. It indicates a text overflow and gets reported by the blue eye icon at the right edge of a text frame. Unexpected text overflow can be caused by a text wrap of another object, or an unintended setting in the Paragraph Style (e.g. 'Leading' or 'Space After') or in a Character Style (e.g. 'Baseline Shift' *) or in the Text Frame Panel (> 'Vertical Position') for instance. Activate in the menu "Text" > "Show Special Characters", it helps to identify hidden characters (e.g. line/paragraph break or End-Of-Text).

Perfetto Thomaso, intanto ho risolto il problema più grosso. Sto spostando i livelli master e le cornici ritornano ad essere utilizzabili, e questo era il problema maggiore: RISOLTO ( chiaramente devo farlo pagina per pagina, penso non esista un comando che lo faccia su tutto il documento)

Cercherò di seguire con attenzione gli altri tuoi suggerimenti per gli altri problemi e spero di riuscire a sistemare il tutto. Sei un bravo insegnante anche per chi ormai è vecchio!!

Yes, we can!

1. Select the two Master layers on any spread that got them applied.
2. Choose in the menu Layer > Master Page > Edit Linked
3. Choose in the menu Layer > Arrange > Move To Back

• There is also another workflow that lets you select a layer in the layout window that is covered by another layer: Option-Click in the layout to switch between various object selections.

• And, if moving the Master pages in the hierarchy did solve your problem, you possibly have text frames in the Master that aren't used for your story? If you delete them from the Master you may get direct click-access to the wanted text layer in the layout window, even if the Master layer is on top of the Layers Panel (for instance, to have objects like page numbers or chapter/section titles etc. in the foreground).

Grazie infinite Thomaso per l'aiuto. Ora funziona perfettamente. Ho eliminato anche dai livelli delle segnalazioni in rosso che chiaramente erano cornici vuote.  MI resta un piccolo problema: ho le cornici dei numeri delle pagine e dell'intestazione che rimangono con le crocette azzurre e non con i pallini rotondi. E' normale? Non mi comportano nessun problema i due campi funzionano perfettamente, è solo se devo trovare qualche problema oppure è tutto ok. Grazie ancora, spero di non disturbarti oltre. Per me è una esperienza nuova ma indispensabile per progettare i miei libri e devo entrare nella filosofia di Affinity e soprattutto non aver paura di sbagliare.

Yes, that is normal since they are Master objects. It is even an advantage that they have the 'x' handles which don't allow object changes easily because the position (+ style + contents) of these text frames does/should not get edited on the various document pages individually but gets rather automatically filled and with a not changeable position or formatting of these text frames.
