All the work I do with Affinity is isometric and if I could be able to constrain my lines as 2x1 in the same way holding shift constrains a brush to horz/vert that would make it so much easier and faster too.

Is this possible somehow, or do you know any tools that can do so?

Affinity Designer fully supports isometric grids, allowing you to choose which plane to draw on so that you don’t have to perform any fiddly calculations.

I've used these the whole time I've had AD but I haven't found anything either in-program or in the guide that says how I can snap my mouse movement or brushes to them.

I’m afraid it’s not something I’ve ever played with to more than a minimal extent, so I’m not particularly well placed to help you! What are your snapping settings?

In the grid and axis panel do you have the settings for the intermediate grids set to constrain?

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

On mac, setting the grid to isometric and holding shift down will constrain to the grid.

Yep

You're talking about the (raster) pixel and paintbrush tools right?

Ah no the vector brushes, the raster brushes will not snap to the grid.

Hmm okay. That's a shame. But maybe I can work that into my workflow in a way that isn't too awkward. Wish the vector tools and the raster ones weren't in different personas sometimes. Does Photo have them together?

Photo doesn't have vector brushes, only raster brushes.

The Raster brushes in the Pixel persona will snap to the vertical and horizontal only. But, you can use the Move tool and select the Pixel layer and fit those strokes to the appropriate face; Top, Front, Side. Might help you our a bit.

Do you mind describing this a bit more?

Thanks

Try this out...

  1. In Pixel Persona, draw a raster brush line in the horizontal plane by clicking once then moving the cursor over to the right, holding the shift key and clicking again, you should have a straight levelled raster brush stroke.
  2. Now go back into Draw Persona.
  3. Select the Move Tool.
  4. Select the brushstrokes layer or click on the brushstroke in the workspace.
  5. With the isometric panel visible, click on one of the planes, front, side or top.
  6. Now click on the Fit to plane option below in the isometric panel, the brushstroke will snap to the plane selected.

Tedious I know but this is what @Old Bruce was getting at.

Another option is to note the angles the grid lines are set at, so in the case of isometric that will be 30º for top right to bottom left, 150º for top left to bottom right and 90º for vertical. As long as you start with a horizontal line you can rotate the brushstroke using the transform panels R: entry box using those three degree options.

Here I have a quickly drawn square with the Pixel persona, duplicated twice to be three squares on three pixel layers. I use the Isometric panel to assign each to the Side, Front and Top then resize them.
