sansnom Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 🇬🇧 Hi, I propose a little challenge… Could you redraw the Apple logo as precisely as possible with the minimum number of control points?... In the solution (see the attached .zip file), and for the less experienced, I illustrate a visual method that works quite well so as not to waste too much time positioning the minimum number of control points as relevant as possible. GarryP Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 A nice little challenge. I don't think I'll be trying it because I’m absolutely terrible at drawing and manipulating curves precisely – my attempt would probably look more like a squashed pear – but I’ll be interested in seeing any results. Just out of interest, by “control points” do you mean nodes, or node control handles, or both together? And what about if someone uses a quick shape? For instance, the leaf could be drawn (maybe not precisely) with a Crescent shape with no nodes, and therefore no node control handles. Should the quick shape handles be added to the total number of “control points”? Quote
sansnom Posted August 11, 2024 Author Posted August 11, 2024 @GarryP: “Just out of interest, by “control points” do you mean nodes, or node control handles, or both together?” I hear nodes first AND then the node control handles to refine the curves. I admit I didn't ask myself the question, your remark is judicious @GarryP. Otherwise, we are still on a solution based on simple vector curves drawn manually. 🙂 GarryP 1 Quote

sansnom Posted August 11, 2024 Author Posted August 11, 2024 Hi @Komatös, very nice gesture, but we can still do better !… 😉 Quote
Komatös Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 OK, it is possible with even fewer nodes. I can do it with 10 nodes. sansnom Posted August 11, 2024 Author Posted August 11, 2024 Hi @Komatös, congratulations to you... I thought (very pretentiously) that you could only do it with 11 points, and you demonstrated the opposite with 10 points. Congratulations again to you. You can download the compressed file in .zip: you will find something to optimize a few points (with tangents). 🙂 Komatös 1 Quote

prophet Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 Challenge Accepted. How about 9 nodes? ronnyb 1 Quote
sansnom Posted August 12, 2024 Author Posted August 12, 2024 Hi @prophet, definitely bravo!... Are you folding the match?... 🙂 Quote
G13RL Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 Finally, I tried and obtained eight nodes prophet 1 Quote
sansnom Posted August 12, 2024 Author Posted August 12, 2024 Hi @G13RL, Well done!... Can we go even further and reduce the path to 7 points?... 🤔 Quote
G13RL Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 I've tried seven nodes and I think that's the limit (at least for me), it's getting hard to follow the model exactly! lepr and firstdefence 2 Quote
sansnom Posted August 13, 2024 Author Posted August 13, 2024 Hi @G13RL, I just tried your plot with 7 points... and it wasn't easy or quick (a good 2 minutes), but once again, you have a perfect command of the Bézier Curves. Otherwise, what a great plotting tool !... 🙂 ronnyb 1 Quote
