Windows Install FAQ

Recommended Posts

I am afraid that you are SOL on the .NET Framework 4.6.2 installation.  I have WIndows 10 ENTERPRISE edition, fully up to date 1511 release and the .NET Framework 4.6.2. will not install regardless of which of these Microsoft bulletins you attempt to follow (the one referenced above has command switches that don't actually exist).

I spent several days going round and round with two MIcrosoft 'tech support' people on their Visual Studio Installation forum.   After several days of back/forth, attempting to run a .NET Framework installation verifier (this fails as well) and getting referred to 9 year old articles discussing .Net installation failures on Windows XP, they gave up and told me to check back when I had it figured out.  It is my job to add to their knowledge base.

Doubt you will find someone in Redmond WA that actually understands the internal details of Windows 10; it has become too large and complex.   The .NET Framework 4.6.2 is part of the Anniversary update, I installed that on a Windows 10 test-bed laptop, and Affinity Designer Beta then successfully installed.  You will probably have to go this route, installing the Anniversary update.

It seems like this is a problem with a corrupt package in Windows:

Please make sure that Aero is NOT needed in the Final Build of this software. This choice should be for end-users not programmers. If Aero is needed, I will not go with this software and I will wait to see what Serif's PS Killer will need.  Vegas Pro uses Hardware acceleration but does NOT require Aero to be turned on. I think having this requirement is rubbish in my opinion as well.

I was able to use affinity designer for windows till yessterday. today it says beta version has expired.

How do I buy the final version ?

is there any other solution. please advice.

Welcome to the Affinity Forums, rmantri. :)

You can't buy the final version because it hasn't been released yet. Your current beta version has expired because it's more than a month old; please download the latest beta release via the link in this post.

I have the betas of both Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo on D:\ and they install and run without problem, so it is possible to do.

I meant was the affinity-photo-public-beta.exe file on the C:\ drive when you tried to install to D:\ originally?

I strongly suspect the first download was incorrect and they are probably different sizes (your first one probably has no valid digital signature). My QA team install to non default location and drives all the time. Glad it's up and working anyway

Hi,

I'm running Win 8.1 64 bit 8 core AMD FX8370 & 16g ram. Affinity won't install without Windows Net 4.6.2 which, in turn, won't install without KB2919355, which then won't install without KB2919442. I'm trying very hard to avoid any contact with Win 10 and have no trust that either one of these KBs will not thrust me into dealing with Win 10. For legacy reasons involving specialised hardware, a stable, well developed workflow (and possibly my sanity) I cannot afford to get involved in potential Win 10 issues.

So I'm pretty much stuck with a fast capable and productive system that I do not wish to risk disrupting . It does not look like I will be able to test Affinity in my context.

Geofk, welcome to the Affinity forums

A quick Google search on those KB articles, with links to MS Support site, shows nothing that suggests these updates are connected in any way to a future upgrade to Windows 10.  Also, now that Win 10 is no longer a "free" upgrade I don't see how you can be forced to make the change anyway.

BTW, what is the problem for you with Win 10?  Speaking personally, I have to say it has proved to be one of the most stable Windows versions I have used; yes, it has its quirks (not least, the "automatic" updates, but these can be turned off, especially in the Pro version).

I believe they can only be turned off in the Pro version.

Maybe for the average person. But if you know how to get to the services (e.g., press Win+x, then g, then select Services and Applications, then Services), you can scroll down to Windows Update, stop the service (if running) and disable it. And then, when/if you want to check for updates, enable it, turn it on, check for updates, stop the service and disable it again.

These updates have nothing to do with Windows 10, they simply add new functionality to Windows 7 that we (and .NET 4.6.2) rely on.
