ASUNDER Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 Came back to a previous project and all my layers have this 'No' icon. What is this? I can't use my layers either. Are they missing? If so, where did they go? ☹ Quote Windows 10 Home 22H2 64 bit Affinity Designer 2.5.3 , Photo 2 , Publisher 2 Good computer
GarryP Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 That icon means that the group has no child layers (no contents). I don’t know how the groups got that way in your particular document. I don’t know if it’s possible to get the contents back unless you have saved the Document History or Snapshots. Quote

Ya I do have three snapshots but clicking on them doesn't do anything. I did move my projects. Was going to put all my projects in their own folders but then changed my mind and moved them back out. I wonder if that did it. But my other projects don't have this same problem. The resource manager is also empty. Don't know if projects are monolithic or if they create files for the layers and the program references them. Don't see where those would be though, maybe the C:\Program Data folder or something. ? Hmmm it's a mystery. Quote Windows 10 Home 22H2 64 bit Affinity Designer 2.5.3 , Photo 2 , Publisher 2 Good computer

If you moved an Affinity document somewhere, and then moved it back without opening it, then that normally shouldn’t have caused a problem. But, if either of those locations was not on a local hard disk (e.g. cloud, NAS, etc.) then that might have done something bad but I don’t know what and there would be lots of possibilities. 7 minutes ago, ASUNDER said: Don't know if projects are monolithic or if they create files for the layers and the program references them. The Affinity documents don’t hold everything the document needs to work but layers and links to linked documents are in the file and not elsewhere. ---- Are you absolutely sure that you are opening the correct Affinity document and not an exported version, such as a PDF or something similar? ASUNDER Posted August 9, 2024 Author Posted August 9, 2024 Oh I see what I did. I had grouped everything to put an outline around it, but forgot about that. Didn't see that it has a dropdown arrow. Sorry about that. Weird that it booted out all the other groups and made them empty. Quote Windows 10 Home 22H2 64 bit Affinity Designer 2.5.3 , Photo 2 , Publisher 2 Good computer
GarryP Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 Ah, an easy mistake to make. Good to know it’s sorted now. Note: Full-screen screenshots (whole application UI) are often much better than small screen-grabs for diagnostic purposes. The more we can see the more we can know and the better we can help (usually). Quote
