Hello, I want to have a rounded cap on one end and a square cap on the other. When I change the cap type it is applied to both ends. Is it possible to have a different cap on each end? I’m using Designer 2 on iPad. Thank you in advance for your help!

The closest I can get is to set the stroke to use square caps, with one end set to the ‘Circle Solid’ style at a size of 35%.

I thing we could optimize the result by mathematically calculate the correct percentage, but the UI may be limit precision.

Other options:

  • split the curve into 2 parts, with a small overlap. Use either curves layer (use 2 curves in one container) or groups to combine if needed.
  • Use circle cap on both side, cut of one by vector mask
  • Use circle cap on both, lay over a very short line with square cap and one side. Length must be non-zero, but very close to zero

Another better way in Designer:

  • set round caps
  • use appearance panel to add another stroke, set to square cap extending
  • set mode to dotted line
  • deactivate „balanced“ mode
  • Set gap to 100 so that square is only applied to one end and invisible at other end.
  • beware that changing the curve later may require re-adjusting the settings (e.g. stroke color or  stroke width or length by chance getting to 100 times stroke width)

Not perfect, but considerably better! 👍

I think we just discovered a bug: the dashed stroke does not match the curvature of a non-dashed stroke.
