Is it possible to create a vector brush that has an oval shape source instead of round. I have a monoline oval procreate brush that I love and would like to have a similar brush in Affinity Design 2. It would produce a writing sample like the attached photo.

thank you,

Shannon

Hi @ssfoster95and Welcome to the Forums,

I'm not aware of a way to create an oval vector brush but you could follow the steps on this tutorial by Forum member @TrentLwhich covers a method of importing Procreate brushes into Affinity.  You could then create a New Textured Image brush from the files you get from following the tutorial in Designer.  This would results in a Raster image on a vector path, which is the closest i could get.

Hi

As vector brushes are raster brushes along a path it could be better to  simply use raster brushes for the effect you are looking for!

There are a few ways in which you can manipulate a brush to create this kind of effet. recently I have been experimenting with creating simple | basic raster brushes and adjusting the shape and size using distance and edits to the texture + Dynamics graph.

The simplest way is just to create a basic brush and edit the Shape and Rotation conditions in Brush Dynamics. You can go much further with custone shape nozzles and edit to the Size Dynamics and Textures options. I found you can simpy switch the nozzle with distance if you flat line the graph.

I added samples to the old Zombie Brush Set and renamed it 'Directional Pen' Additional brushes were added to demonstrate the effects. These are named on the process sheet below. Hope it helps!

Thank you so much. How do I access the controls shown in the photo? I am using the iPad app. The only settings I see for the brush is the one shown in my attached photo

Argh you are on ipad...someone else will have to chip in with that one...Sorry! but the controls are for raster brushes not vector!
I was just looking to see if I had any vector brushes that would help. I am not using them much at the moment. They are a bit limiting!
Have a play with these here:
