The selection logic takes only the stated width of the stroke into account, not the visual width when altered by the pressure curve. This means that if you draw strokes with significant pressure sensitivity (e.g. for dynamic linework with pencil or vector brush tool) you will not be able to select visually distinct strokes by clicking on them. You instead have to use the alt-key to select behind, or use the layer panel. (My thanks to vczf for their spot-on description of the problem.)

I am using:

Affinity Designer 2 2.5.3
Mac Studio 2022
CPU: Apple M1 Ultra
Hardware acceleration on
OS: 14.5 (23F79)

This was reported by vczf for Designer v. 1 (Windows) but is still an issue in v.2 (Mac). I've adapted vczf's demo file and included a screen capture video.

Hi @Will FS and welcome to the forums,

Your screen recording shows that you're trying to select the strokes using the Node tool (3rd tool in the toolbar) rather than the Move tool (1st tool in the toolbar)...

Change to the Move tool then try selecting the individual strokes using Option Click and see how you get on...

The node tool and the move tool have the same issue for me.

Are you Option Clicking the lines?

Can confirm I can still reproduce this using the file, it is already logged with the developers so i've updated the issue and bumped it with your report. ALT/OPT + Click with the move tool appears to be the best workaround for this as it cycles the z-order for objects stacked 'on top' of one-another.
