Dear peeps!

Recently I was wondering what did happen to Symbols in Affinity?
They have behaviors I'm not used to:

- If I select a Symbol somewhere in a project and change its layer opacity -> it changes every other Symbols opacity too - thats new to me

- As in the video shown:  when i send a symbol to the Back -> every Symbol gets send to the Back (of their container) - additionally when i undo this action it only undo the changes to the selected symbol and not the other ones.

A workaround would be to place every symbol in a container/group, but this ends in an annoyed me ans I dont want to be annoyed when using your great tools. =]

Cheers!

Carl

The Opacity of a symbol layer is a linked/synced attribute similar to the blend mode so all instances will be updated. You can detach that specific opacity attribute by pressing the Sync button in the symbols panel, change the opacity of the symbols layer and then press Sync again.

This is a known issue currently logged with the developers, i've bumped the existing issue with your report. 🙂

But this behavior is new, right?

Haha, okay. It felt like it never was like that. But thanks for doing the research.

But maybe it could be a good change?
For "constistency" - right now imo it feels inconsistent based on this example:
if you scale a symbol it doesnt change the other symbols but if u change the opacity it does change the others too.
(I personally would prefer to change these layer-based options only for the selected instance by default - but thats probably only my preference/style of workflow)
