I use Affinity Designer on my Windows PC - Windows 11. It keeps crashing, freezing, and not responding when I try to drag images from the desktop to the program to edit. I have made sure the windows software is up to date. The only resolution is restarting my computer which is a pain when I am in the middle of many different things. I run my business on this program and this is really becoming an issue.

Welcome to the forums @Kayla McCord,

I would initially suggest disabling 'hardware acceleration' found under Edit > Settings > Performance within the app, close the interface and restart when prompted to for this to take effect and see how it goes. If the problem persists we'll need a bit more info:

  • What version of affinity Designer are you running and is it updated to the latest version available? (v1.10.6 for V1 and 2.5.3 for V2)
  • Does this app freeze only trigger when working in a specific file or can you replicate it in a new empty document?
  • Does it make any difference if you use the File > Place function instead of dragging ad dropping from file explorer?
  • Where are the images you're dragging into the program stored (E.G local drive, Network Drive, External drive) and what file format and file size are they?

If the app is in an unresponsive state you should be able to terminate the Designer.exe process using task manager rather than having to go through a reboot every time.
