eobet Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 Look at the top stroke. It should be a solid purple, but it clearly fades to white as it becomes transparent. Why is that? It doesn't seem to matter what color I set the mask object to. Quote
NotMyFault Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 Good find. This is a major issue! the layer blending gets completely wrong when you have a black background (ok for white) you apply a mask (or vector layer as mask) to a group (vs. Applied to child layers within group) I loosely remember that this might have been reported before Quote Mac mini M1 A2348 | MBP M3 Windows 11 - AMD Ryzen 9 5900x - 32 GB RAM - Nvidia GTX 1080 LG34WK950U-W, calibrated to DCI-P3 with LG Calibration Studio / Spider 5 | Dell 27“ 4K iPad Air Gen 5 (2022) A2589 Special interest into procedural texture filter, edit alpha channel, RGB/16 and RGB/32 color formats, stacking, finding root causes for misbehaving files, finding creative solutions for unsolvable tasks, finding bugs in Apps. - S - Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 It may be easier if you upload a sample file. However, as mentioned, one thing to look at is masking groups in Affinity Photo doesn't work properly if the group blend mode is set to "Passthrough" – which is the default setting for groups. It would need to be set to "Normal" blend mode to work more as expected. Bug report HERE. Screenshot: Example: Example.afphoto Alfred and eobet 2 Quote
eobet Posted August 7, 2024 Author Posted August 7, 2024 I should have perhaps specified that this is Affinity Designer V2. But interesting... I did not set "passthrough" myself, so Affinity did that for me and that is wrong? Setting the group back to normal now works as expected. Quote

Passthrough is the default blend mode for a Group. You need to explicitly change it if you want a different mode, such as Normal. Passthrough is not the wrong default mode for a Group, but Affinity has a 10 years old bug corrupting the way it renders a Passthrough Group when the Group has a mask. Quote

Staff NathanC Posted August 7, 2024 Staff Posted August 7, 2024 Can confirm this passthrough group mask issue is logged, I've bumped existing issue. Quote
