IhorVorobiov Posted August 6, 2024 Posted August 6, 2024 Hello. I'm trying out the programs in my Affinity subscription. When I'm typing, I can't immediately change the language with the Command+Space shortcut. To do this, I need to exit the text input mode and only then can I change the language. Have I found a serious bug or is this a strange feature of the program? CleanShot 2024-08-06 at 21.28.23.mp4 Quote

Just to clarify for others reading this, you're asking about changing the keyboard language and not the language of the text. To change the language of the text you would use the Character > Language > Spelling option. Cmd + Space is not the standard macOS shortcut for changing the keyboard language, it's the Globe key . The shortcut you're using (Cmd + Space) is the default for Spotlight search. Did you change your shortcuts using macOS settings? Regardless, I tried both shortcuts in Affinity and they both worked fine for me, including with a Ukrainian keyboard. I'm unsure why this is not working for you. Yes, I changed this combination in the system settings. In other non-Affinity programs, the language changes without any problems. I want to enter text first in one language and then in another language without having to exit edit mode, change the language, and re-enter edit mode. UPD. The video shows that outside of the text block, the language can be changed with a keyboard shortcut without any problems. I would also like to note that the program was installed after a complete factory reset of the MacOS. Edited August 6, 2024 by IhorVorobiov Quote
MikeTO Posted August 6, 2024 Posted August 6, 2024 I'm unsure why Cmd+Space doesn't work for you - I have no problems using that shortcut for Spotlight search from inside an Affinity artistic text object or text frame. Perhaps somebody else will have a suggestion. Staff NathanC Posted August 9, 2024 Staff Posted August 9, 2024 Welcome to the forums @IhorVorobiov, I can replicate your issue when using a Windows keyboard on MacOS, since I don't have an Fn/Globe key on this keyboard to switch the input language I can use CTRL + OPT + SPACE to do this. This appears to work fine while actively editing text in other apps such as Pages and InDesign but fails to trigger anything while actively editing a frame in Publisher, I have to click out of the frame every time. I've logged this with the developers for further investigation. Quote

I won't be able to use the programs properly during this time. Quote

Then maybe there is an option to provide me the apps for free? Because the update can happen in a month or six months. Also, considering that I helped to find a bug that could push some users away from buying. R C-R 1 Quote
MikeTO Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 Which keyboard are you using? A standard external keyboard designed for macOS from any vendor should work. If you're using a non-Mac keyboard then this is a fairly niche issue but you could workaround it by assigning a different keyboard shortcut. It seems that as a user I should not bother with separate hotkeys for a trivial language change for programs from a particular developer. Everything works fine in other programs and my keyboard shortcut is not specific at all. And the keyboard is quite popular among people in my profession. Quote

I've been thinking about buying one of those - I love my MX Anywhere mouse. Do you have the Mac or Windows version of this keyboard? The Windows version has Mac equivalents (for example, the Start/Opt key and the Alt/Cmd key) while the Mac version doesn't have any Windows key names on it.
