hellos - I hope I have put this in the correct place. Is there a video link on the function of the history panel? ..would appreciate a link. I need to understand how it functions as I am used to the history panel  in photoshop.  A suggestion for a "RESET image" button would be helpful.    TY.  dw

Hello @dr5chrome,

this video does explain the basic functionality including alternative histories:

I am not exactly sure what you want to reset but you can move the Position slider back to any previous state.

Hi @R C-R,

please note that you answered (or asked) the wrong person (me). The suggestion for a "RESET image" button was part of a quote of the OP's posting. Only @dr5chrome could elaborate on this. OTOH you gave a possible answer to the OP's suggestion: move the slider back to the very left.

Affinity Photo has the concepts of non-destructive edits, snapshots and you can make copies of layers. So there is no direct counterpart to “reset image”.

Either use the history panel to undo edits, or simpler make a duplicate of the background layer (cmd-J or ctrl-J) directly after opening the file and use the copy, or close the file without saving to come back to the state of unedited image,

I use iPad screenshots and videos even in the Desktop section of the forum when I expect no relevant difference.

Sorry about that. I quoted the OP but somehow it was attributed to you -- a glitch in the forum software, I guess.

EDIT: from the time stamps, it looks like I did quote from @dominik's post like @walt.farrell suggested below ... but I am still getting some odd forum software behaviors like having to type almost all of either of their names after the @ before I get those names in the popup & the occasional bad gateway error when I try to open a topic.

Weird.

I suspect you mistakenly highlighted the text in @dominik's quote from the OP, rather than highlighting it directly in the OP's post, then pressed the Quote button.

(since that post ends with a comma,…;)

… or, if you want to reset only a specific layer but preserve the edits of others: Select the layers that are as wanted -> go back via History or Snapshot panel -> select these layers again (in their previous, unedited states), delete them + paste them with their recent edits from the clipboard. – Or go this way vice versa: copy the object(s) you want to reset from the history/snapshot + paste them in the newer, current layout state + delete the unwanted, newer object(s).

Hello @dr5chrome,

as you can see from below posts the history function in Affinity has quite a bit to offer. More than explained in the video I linked at first. Especially the method @thomaso is referring to can be very helpful if one has 'lost' or 'spoiled' in the design process a part of the project. It is worth to do some experiments with these capabilities.

On top there are Snapshots (in Designer and Photo) and Layer States that can be used to recall former design variants. Once you are familiar with all of these you can easily step back and forth in your design process and (hardly) ever loose anything.
