Bywong Posted August 3, 2024 Posted August 3, 2024 (edited) Hi all, just downloaded V.2.5, clicked on 'open file' and got this error message. W10, AMD Ryzen, meets the min specs. The FAQs don't appear to identify this error message, search didn't throw anything up. Suggestions welcome! Thanks ETA: Lookslike I had this problem 18 months ago, and helpdesk suggested using a different installer. I will search my PC for what was suggested, in the meantime if anyone knows of a different installer please post it up, I will check back, and update as appropriate. ETA(2) Helpdesk gave me a link last year, I am now using that link to download 2.5. Fingers crossed. Edited August 3, 2024 by Bywong update (2) Quote

Bywong Posted August 3, 2024 Author Posted August 3, 2024 Hi Walt Download activated via A2, takes me to Affinity Photo 2 Updates (Windows) (serif.com) where I click on MSIX x64. When I go back to the email from Feb 2023 the link takes me to ... Affinity Photo 2 Updates (Windows) (serif.com), apparently the same site as my first attempt. Not sure what differences between 2023 and now, but the emailed link worked back then, not today though - both attempts failed, same error message (as above). Downloading 2.5.3 Thanks Ed Quote

Suggestions: Either Try a different web browser; or Try downloading from https://affinity.store/account/downloads or from https://store.serif.com/en-us/account/licences/ (at that last one, you'll need to click on View License to see the download link) Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. Bywong Posted August 3, 2024 Author Posted August 3, 2024 Thanks Walt Affinity Version 2 told me there was an update, the dialogue box took me to the site. Thanks for those suggestions, will try them and report. Ed Quote

Important: If the dialog box "took you to the site" you are running the MSI/EXE version, and that is the one you would want to download, not the MSIX version. Bywong Posted August 4, 2024 Author Posted August 4, 2024 Thanks Walt, correct, when I clicked 'download' I was taken to the download page, none of the four download options were preselected or anything. Given I am running Windows 10, and an AMD Ryzen, is MSIX/EXE the 'correct' version, if not should I remove my V2 Affinity and start again with (presumably) MSIX? Or is either going do the job and I should just stick to the /EXE version?? Thanks Ed Quote
Bywong Posted August 4, 2024 Author Posted August 4, 2024 OK, V2.5.3 is up and running - that tip worked, downloaded MSIX/EXE version and the update breezed through, thanks Walt. Still interested in whether I should be running that or the other, if there is a performance or other difference. Quote

It is rumored there are some performance differences, but I haven't seen it confirmed in large-scale testing. Mainly, the EXE/MSI lets you install to the directory/drive of your choice, lets you link to the application from other applications, and has some other small differences but only you know if they matter. The MSIX is easier to install/update, and more secure in some ways that may or may not matter to you. You should not have both installed, so because you're already running MSI/EXE that's the one you need to choose at this point, and each time you update. Bywong Posted August 4, 2024 Author Posted August 4, 2024 Thanks Walt, most of that went over my head, so I think I will stick with what I have as a) it works, and b) I have no other reason to replace it. Ed Quote
