I can not work out how to scale text... like I have been able to do it sometimes, but I can not work out how..

Say I have a text block.. I want to scale it so it is taller and slightly wider... but when I click on it and drag the handles it only changes the size of the text box the text is appearing in. Even if I make a group of the text box... clicking still only changes the size of the text handles.... but sometimes during working on the porject it has worked... and I can not work out how to do it on purpose.

TL:DR : This is a mock up, I did in affinity photo... it is exaggerated to get my point across. The left image is how it looks in the text box...

  1. How can I scale the text in a non-uniform way.
  2. Also, if there is a way to apply the FX post-scale, that would be extremely good.

• Use the Artistic Text Tool and drag a middle handle to stretch a frame and its text.

• Or use the value fields/sliders in the Character Panel -> Positioning and Transform -> Horizontal/ Vertical Scale.

Yes.. I should have been more clear....

I am not using the "artistic text tool" as I'm using all the text box overflow stuff as well as warping the text with some images...

So to be clear I can use the transform values to scale the text box... but there is no visual tool for that? It has to be a numeric value entered?

You can use the arrows next to the input boxes or the up/down arrow keys on the keyboard, your text will scale in real time

That's why I said "sliders". Click and hold the mouse button pressed on the 'T' label left to the field, then drag horizontally left/right. It is an invisible 'visual tool';)
Alternatively you can use the scroll wheel when hovering over the value field.
And you also may press + hold the two tiny arrow buttons.

To be clear: NO. – These horizontal/vertical transform values in the Character Panel don't scale the frame of a Frame text but of Artistic text only. So, if you want to avoid text overflow, you would need to adjust the frame height/width as a separate step and according to your text scaling.

That’s precisely the problem. You need to use Artistic Text, not Frame Text, for what you want to achieve.

Do you perhaps mean wrapping?
