Hi @earl_grey,

I can confirm the same behaviour on Windows, though this works as expected on Mac...

Affinity Designer 2.6.3 | Affinity Photo 2.6.3 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.3
MacBook Pro M3 Max, 36 GB Unified Memory, macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, Magic Mouse
HP ENVY x360, 8 GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 5 2500U, Windows 10 Home, Logitech Mouse

Hi @earl_grey,

I'm having no trouble using a brush under 3 pixels.  There is a rounding issue, when you enter 2.9 it will display as 3 (or 2.4 under and it will display 2) in the context toolbar but the brush is actually using 2.9, which can be seen when you edit the brush.

For myself, using the same brush and setting the value to 2.2 and i can paint on the canvas.  Can you post a screenshot of Edit>Settings Performance?

@HangmanIs it the rounding issue you can see or the brush not working when set to below 3?  I've yet to get my brush to fail to work under 3.

Hi @stokerg,

It doesn't appear to be a rounding error, if I enter any value of 3 px or above, all works fine...

  • If I enter 2.9 px, it rounds it up to 3 px (as expected) and works fine...
  • If I enter 2.8 px it fails...
  • If I enter 2 px or 1 px it fails...

Note: This seems to be specific to the Basic Brush set and only in the Pixel Persona of Designer. The same linked brush works without issue in both Photo and the Photo Persona of Publisher at values below 3 px, e.g., 1 px and 2 px...

I see the same as you but if I set the Hardness of the 2 px or 1 px basic brush from 100% to 99% (or lower) it seems to work OK

Do you see the same

In video, I also used a 1px brush ( not a float value)

I've just tried this and (for me) it makes no difference... I see the exact same behaviour as @earl_grey...
