I'm just starting out with Affinity 2.5.3 (Windows) and loving the experience so far.  What a fantastic and powerful suite of software.

One small thing I find tricky is to know what the current tool is.  Now, I'm sure all the pro users know what tool is active and are rapidly switching with the keyboard shortcuts but it just seems like a clearer highlight (amber glow?) of any active tool would be a simple improvement.

I have the same issue with the context menu.  Is a button active or not?  For example with the shape builder in the context menu - is the 'create a new shape from selected areas' button depressed or not?  It would just be nice if there was a bit more contrast.

Let me know if i'm missing something or if that could genuinely be an improvement for anybody.

You are not missing anything. The people who built the interface have to fix the lack of contrast between On and Off.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

You may find it easier to see which tool is active in Light Mode which has more contrast in the tool shading than Dark Mode.

However, Light Mode overall has more contrast issues than Dark Mode. For example, two New Document dialog icons are completely invisible in Light Mode.

But the developers apparently are missing how annoying this is for so many users who have been asking for a fix for this since the very first version of AD was released! 😠
