Juhani Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 Scrubby Zoom keyboard shortcut is Cmd-Space. However, it only works when pressing Space first and only then Cmd. If you press Cmd first and then Space then you won't get to the Scrubby Zoom. This has a number of problems: It is inconsistent with how every other keyboard shotcut works in Affinity apps, where you first press any of the modifier keys and only then the character key. Space-Cmd means Scrubby zoom is not available while having text selected. Cmd-Space would not have this limitation. Space-Cmd is not available as a programmable keyboard shortcut with shortcut remotes, which only accept Cmd-Space. It is also not consistent with how scrubby zoom has always worked in Adobe applications, which pretty much all of us have grown up with and where both ways work. Thus even after almost two months with Affinity I'm still often failing to initiate scrubby zoom because of this odd behaviour. For all these reasons, I think this is a clear bug, even if by design, and I hope you will consider making Cmd-Space and Space-Cmd interchangable. Staff stokerg Posted July 31, 2024 Staff Posted July 31, 2024 Hi @Juhani, This is by design, the shortcut for Scrubby Zoom in Affinity is Space+CMD, which is why holding Space also shows on the hint line at the bottom to press CMD to enter zoom mode. Also just because Adobe does something 1 way, doesn't mean we will follow suit. We aren't a clone of Adobe so there will be differences. I'll get this post moved to the Feedback section of the Forums. PaulEC 1 Quote
Juhani Posted July 31, 2024 Author Posted July 31, 2024 @stokerg I never meant to suggest Affinity is or should be a clone of Adobe, my apologies to give a reason for such interpretation. Old Bruce Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 On Mac OS the use of Command and then Space brings up the Spotlight Search. This works in applications, I am surprised you don't see this pop up when you use it. Perhaps you have turned it off. To the best of my knowledge it is a default in Mac OS. 22 hours ago, Juhani said: Scrubby Zoom keyboard shortcut is Cmd-Space. However, it only works when pressing Space first and only then Cmd. Yes I always turn this off first thing. It has always clashed with Adobe's scrubby zoom and there's also a special key (F4) for Spotlight on all newer Mac keyboards so it's reduntand anyway. I'm surprised it's still on by default. Quote Affinity 2.6.0 Beta | macOS Sequoia 15.2 | MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro/16GB (2021) | XPPen Artist Pro 16 (Gen 2)
MarkSweeney Posted October 25, 2024 Posted October 25, 2024 This scrubby zoom bug is really annoying on InDesign 2. One should not have to hold the space bar down first before holding the Command key to use scrubby zoom. Half the time, even when I do hold Space first, then press Command, it still doesn't zoom - it moves the page around. Keyboard shortcuts should never have to performed in a specific order. They're supposed to work when all required keys are pressed. Quote

I want to say after several months of everyday use of the software it has gotten better, but there are still so many misses in activating the scrubby zoom because i must have hit Cmd first. So yes, i still don’t understand why it has to be so finicky and why they have to force any specific order of the keys pressed. Is it really because of the Spotlight on macOS? But then again we have a specific Spotlight key on all the recent Macs and Adobe has used the same shortcut for decades without nobody complaining about it.
