Many of us are using it successfully.

You need to make sure you've downloaded the correct version of the plug-in, and that you've put its files in the correct location, and that (as with all plugins) your image has the correct color format (RGB-8 or -16) and you've selected an RGB Pixel layer.

Have you downloaded from this site? https://github.com/0xC0000054/gmic-8bf/releases

Did you download the x64 or the x86 version? If x86, this will not work with Affinity Photo.

@Affinity-Inspiration I've just installed the G'MIC plugin by downloading the x64 version using the link given by @Komatös and then following the instructions in the Readme.txt file that's in the zip file.  No problem, the filters are available.

Well, I say no problem but the filters are very sluggish and I'm using a fairly recent Win 11 laptop (13th gen core-i7 CPU with 16GB RAM).

I think my problem is probably the Silicone Mac and Parallels. It was just an experiment so I’ll just forget it I think.

I know nothing about Macs but that sounds like a reasonable explanation for why it doesn't work for you.

Well, the iGPU is not exactly a computing monster. Especially because it uses the rather slow RAM

Sorry should have said, the laptop also has a RTX4050 GPU

Ok, have you installed the GameReady or the Studio drivers?
In my experience, the Studio drivers perform better with graphics applications.

Follow the link to GitHub given by @Komatös and look under the heading 'Assets', the filenames are self explantory.

I thought the Windows Store offered the correct version for the platform. So I should have the right one I thought. I’ll check.

It may have. But then you also need the ARM64 version of G'Mic, and you said you got the X64 version.

Also, you never said you'd installed Photo from the Microsoft Store, as far as I can see.

Ok. I have Affinity Photo. Didn’t see the ARM64 version of gmic.

If I get back to it I’ll look. But basically my days of hacking up dodgy GIT repos are long gone.

Ok. I have ARM64 for everything installed. The plug-in stuff is in the Affinity default directory as directed. I don’t have any Adobe stuff installed so don’t have the Adobe plugin folder.
I have an RGB rasterised image loaded. But no filters showing.
I see there is a JSON file in the plugins folder that has a list of compatible plugins but not gmic. Does it lock others out? Or just a check.?

Anyway, that’s all I can do. It doesn’t work.

It might help if you gave us screenshots of the Settings, Photoshop Plugins dialog, and of File Explorer showing that directory.

I decided to install a trial of Parallels, and got the ARM-64 MSIX version of Photo 2.5.3 running in Win 11 Pro there.

I can confirm that the ARM-64 version of the G'Mic plugin doesn't show up in the Plugins list in the Applications settings, when installed into the default Plugins directory.

The ARM-64 MSIX download works for me, @DWright, though the plugin does not.

The ARM-64 MSI/EXE download installs but crashes before showing the Splash screen. Possibly: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/search/&tags=AF-3395
