Publicity flier for next year.  Going before the organising committee next week for approval.  CC as always  welcome. @GaryP work amongst others were the source of ideas.  i.B.C. needs to read I.B.C.

It’s currently also missing the final full stop. And another minor point: the headings ‘Venue’, ‘Contact’ and ‘In aid of’ are not centred with respect to the blocks of text below.

I wonder whether ‘Ladies v Men. Plus Fun Games’ would look better as ‘Ladies v Men + Fun Games’. Just a thought!

Does ‘In aid of Motor Neurone Disease and Parkinson’s charities’ mean multiple charities, or is it one particular charity for each of the two conditions?

I have a few comments at first glance…

I wouldn’t put the full stop after MEN. It looks like an abbreviation of something.

I’m not sure about the superscript AM, but that’s maybe just me.

The ‘split’ between the “SIGN UP…”  and “PLAY DURING…” lines makes it sound a bit odd if you read it as two sentences.

Since it’s for both women and men, would you be able to find a picture with both men and women playing?

I wouldn’t put the top and bottom lines of text so close to the edge of the paper, just in case of printing issues.

I’m not sure about the vertical spacings of the VENUE lines and the CONTACT set of lines, or the horizontal alignments, but, again, maybe that’s just me.

Thanks for that, Garry. I did read it as two sentences, and I couldn’t make sense of it! xD

The split, if deemed necessary, should come after the word ‘play’ rather than before it.

Yeah, that’s better, or maybe: “SIGN UP FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS OF PLAY” ; “DURING THE 24 HOURS”.

Or maybe, as you say, just have the sentence on a single line as it’s short enough.

Also, there’s a bit too much white text for my liking.

I would be tempted to differentiate ‘areas’ of text with a different colour, maybe black in certain places.
Maybe also change the gradient to have white text on darker colour with black text on lighter colour?

Perhaps a bit, but I’m more bothered by the plethora of text styles.

If the layout is reorganised a bit then that might not matter, but I agree that it could be an issue.

I’m a bit concerned about the size of the information between the title and the image; there’s a lot of empty space left and right.

While having lots of empty space isn’t always a concern, I’m wondering if the first line could be on two or more lines on the left (and larger) with the date and time on right (maybe three lines, and larger) with the “SIGN UP…” line underneath.

Yes, that empty space is wasted space. ‘Starting 9am’ could and should go on the same line as the date, and the next two lines could easily be combined into one.

Are the people standing on an oversized snooker table or is this a British form of a bowling lane? 🤣

I don't see the reference to the event in the background image.
I would clearly set off the intended use of the funds in color.

Overall, this flyer looks more like an event for a retirement home to me.

LOL, no. It’s not a bowling lane, it’s a bowling green. Bowls (or lawn bowls) is somewhat like pétanque, except that it’s played on grass.

Ah well, I don't know anything like that here. According to Wikipedia, there are only 2 clubs here in Germany that offer bowls. So I apologize for my impertinence and retract my statement about the background image.

Only 2 bowls clubs in the whole of Germany, that really comes as a great surprise to me.

There are also hardly any bowling or skittles clubs left in Germany, as there are no longer any suitable premises.

EDIT: Here is my vision of the flyer

@Komatös that's very kind of you to submit an alternative I am grateful and it gives me food for thought.  What I should of shown in my flier is that this is an indoor bowls event.  Sadly I have not found any suitable images on the internet to use so I have had to rely on ones I took myself.

When taking pictures of people, make sure that no faces are visible. At least in the EU, this could give rise to a lawsuit for violation of personal rights. Unless the person/persons have consented to the publication.

But back to the flyer. You could include the indoor event in the headline.

Just my own opinion, but as these events are aimed at the members of a club, I would think that it's much better to use pictures of that club (which members will recognise,) rather generic pictures of people playing bowls.

A timely reminder.  When taking any pictures within the club people are always asked if they mind (and informed they may be used within publicity about the club).  Especially if there are children present

This flier that will go on our club notice board, emailed to all members and surrounding indoor and outdoor bowls clubs along with being put on social media platforms later in the year. The event will be for whomsoever (with the usual signing in protocol) wants to participate in raising these charity funds

Hi @pioneer, I allow myself to get into the game and offer an alternative. I made this mockup for pure pleasure hoping that it will give you some ideas... 😉

It seemed to me that the purple color you chose was perhaps not the most suitable: I chose other colors, those from a visual found on the web illustrating the same theme of these players seniors. This visual will have to be replaced, of course.

The good people of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon would probably disagree with your view about combining green with purple! :P
