Hi everyone..

I just upgraded Affinity Universal Licences from version 1 to 2.5. It means my old v.1 Affinity is no longer used and uninstalled since new version of v.25  has been installed on my laptop. Until I made a plan to install version 1 into my son's laptop using affinity v.1 installation files.

Is it legal if my son use Affinity version 1 with my Affinity account?  So we will use different version of Affinity applications (v.1 and v.2) each one on different devices simultaneously with my Affinity account.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, @Guru DKV. :)

A personal Affinity licence specifically permits the licensee to install the software on any device that they own or control, subject to the operating system being covered by that licence (so, for example, a Mac-only licence would allow you to install the app on an iMac or a MacBook but wouldn’t allow you to install it on a Windows laptop). Other members of your household may use the software for non-commercial purposes.

It follows that as long as your son is a member of your household he is permitted to use version 2.x on one of your devices, which would mean that you could freely exchange files with each other. If he were to use version 1 instead of version 2, he would be unable to open files saved from your later version.

Ok thanks Albert, I will setup old version of Affinity Universal License (v.1) on my son's laptop since he is still first high school and to ease his homework along with Canva. I bought this v.1 in 2021

And for my personal work, I will continue graphics daily basis work with last purchased  Affinity Universal License (v.2.5) and had been installed on my own laptop.

Each laptops will login with my single account. Hopefully this is legal.

The Universal Licence was introduced for version 2. Licences for version 1 Affinity apps each cover only one app on a single platform.

I don’t understand why you want to install version 1 on your son’s laptop. If that machine is owned or controlled by you, then you have the right to install the version 2 apps on it. If it’s owned and controlled by your son, then strictly speaking he can’t use your version 1 apps because the Affinity licences aren’t transferable.
