Can I Use These Photific Tshirt Mockups in Affinity Designer?

Recommended Posts

Wondering if I will be able to use these mockups by Photific inside Affinity Designer?

Here's the main page, which says that the mockups are Photoshop files, delivered as PDF ...

https://creativemarket.com/Photific/400296-STOREFRONT-Apparel-Mockups-Bundle

And this screenshot talks about "3D design mapping" and "proprietary layer processing" ...

https://creativemarket.com/Photific/400296-STOREFRONT-Apparel-Mockups-Bundle/screenshots/#screenshot3

Hoping someone can advise me, from looking at those two links.

Many thanks!

Sheila

Here's a response I got from Photific:

As of now Photoshop is the only officially supported platform. It's possible you could get Affinity to work, although these templates have some advanced features that trip up some other designers. Specifically: displacement maps and nested layers with group layer can cause compatibility issues.

There are nested layers within a Group that has a layer mask. If affinity can handle that you'd probably be okay :)

Anyone have some thoughts on this? Thanks!

Welcome to the forum seabreeze :)

I can see from the description that these files use Smart Objects. Our apps will open PSD files that contain Smart Objects but they will be automatically rasterised. This will most probably cause issues when trying to make changes to the PSD file.

Without seeing a sample file it's hard to say if they will work fine in our apps, sorry.

I would suggest that you download our 10 day trial and see if your document opens as expected. The apps have changed quite a bit since 2016 👍

The trial can be downloaded from the bottom of this page here: https://affinity.serif.com/designer/

This may not help much, but... sometimes mock-up PSD files work great and sometimes they don't. I don't believe any of them work in Affinity Designer, you have to use Affinity Photo. Make sure "Import PSD Smart Objects where possible" option is checked in General Preferences.

Thank you, I already own copies of your software. Just trying to figure out if I should lay down the $80 for the site.

I already own the Mac version but I noticed when I click the link, it takes me to https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/designer/, where the U.S. price for either the Mac or Windows version is listed as $54.99. When I purchased the desktop apps some years ago, the price was $49.95 or thereabouts.

So when did the price go up?

If you look at the exchange rates the apps are still cheaper in the USA than in the UK!

Acer XC-895 : Core i5-10400 Hexa-core 2.90 GHz :  32GB RAM : Intel UHD Graphics 630 : Windows 10 Home
Affinity Publisher 2 : Affinity Photo 2 : Affinity Designer 2 : (latest release versions) on desktop and iPad

It’s never been purely about exchange rates. Apple’s pricing matrix reflects the cost of doing business in various countries around the world, and this obviously varies over time. Even in the Eurozone, where the current Tier 51 price of US$54.99 translates to 59,99 €, the proceeds paid to the software companies ranges from as little as 33,87 € in Finland and Greece to as much as 35,89 € in Luxembourg.

Thanks, Alfred.

Really I was just trying to make the point (now a couple of people in the US have complained about the price going up,) that they are still getting a good deal!

I think the $80 mentioned is about the Mockups, not the Affinity apps.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

AFAIK, Apple updated their underlaying price matrix due to currency conversions a few weeks ago, so we updated our prices: https://developer.apple.com/news/?id=o0uodgu

Hope that helps!

From the linked page:

Quote

In the next few days, prices of apps and in-app purchases (excluding auto-renewable subscriptions) on the App Store will decrease in:

  • South Africa
  • United Kingdom
  • All territories that use the Euro currency

But the price in the UK has increased and the USD and EUR prices have been adjusted accordingly. If I remember correctly, the price was originally set at 49.95 USD and the price matrix that was in effect at the time made the EUR and GBP prices the same or lower.

So is there any more info on why the UK price increased instead of decreased?

The UK price has dropped by £1 for our desktop apps. They were £48.99 but are now £47.99. The UK price for our iPad apps has dropped by £0.50p, making them £19.49.
