How do I create this kind of effect (slightly transparent/translucent colorful image) in Affinity Designer?

Recommended Posts

Here is a good example of the style of design I'm talking about.  Any idea what this type of design is called? Any good tutorials on how to create them? What effects should I be playing around with in Affinity Designer to create something similar? ZNiW47j.png

Hi Boddicker,

Welcome to the Forums!

This effect can be achieved by playing with the Opacity settings in the Layers tab towards the right hand side of the app (see attached). Draw the rectangles select the one that is on top and then lower the opacity slider until it looks how you want :)

Curiously I'm working on the very same effect for a UI background right now...  :)

I perceive a slightly dark halo around the overlapped corner, this makes me guess that there is a more complex combo there.

Shapes' fill seems to me a subtle radial gradient and adding a bit of opacity to the end colour of the foreground shape could do a more refined job maybe?
