I'm trying to turn a colour photograph (It's of the Forth Rail Bridge in Scotland) into a Black & White one however… having done that, I want to bring back some of the red parts of the bridge.  I would also like to do this 'Dash of Red' in other photographs too perhaps even some where there wasn't any red in the original  colour photograph.  Is this possible and what is the best way to proceed? - Much'O Thanks for any help given. ~

Hi Digbydo

You can achieve this effect by adding a Black and White adjustment layer to your image and then painting onto it. To do this Make sure the brush colour is set to Black and then paint over the adjustment layer with the Brush Tool. You will notice that where you paint your colour will come back so all you will need to do is paint over the red sections :) If you paint over too much and bring back the colours you don't want you can paint over them in black to make them black and white again!

In the last sentence, don't you mean you can paint over them with white to make them black & white again?

Off topic: somewhere in here is a joke about what is black & white & red/read all over .... ;)

That great thanks to el moderators and RC-R for spotting the B&W mess around.  However whilst I am thankful for learning how to make the old colour (in my case Red) peep through my B&W image again what if I want to chang e the colour from red to to say green or blue or indeed any other colour ~ Can this be done and if so ~ How?   -    Thanks again from Digbydo
