AffiniSteve
Hello everyone, As the subject mentioned, I'm an old dog trying to learn a new trick. In other words, a newbie. This realm is pretty new to me so it's hard to know what to search for when I don't know what certain things are called. I have started watching YouTube videos, and some tutorials and will continue to do so, but since I am trying to get a project done, I was hoping to maybe get some quick guidance if at all possible. And if this type of post isn't allowed, my apologies and please feel free to delete. I have an SVG file (small section of that file is attached below) that I got from someone and for lack of a better term, the edges are all overhanging and will look like crap. The curve and everything within the curved part I need to keep, and everything outside of the curve, I'd like to remove. This is just a small section, but there are a lot more of these types of overhangs across the whole image. There is a single line (the curved line goes around the full image) that I can select, but when trying to select individual pieces and the curve and then trying to "subtract" it just removes the whole thing. Is there a way to accomplish this without having to get down to the individual node selection and moving of every single overhanging piece of this? Thank you in advance for any help you are willing to offer! Steve
NotMyFault
The layer geometry functions require closed curves to work. But base on the screenshot I assume that you have an closed ellipse shape and multiple rectangles. If the shapes are open curves, please use closed curves instead. Use the node tool to inspect the curves. In your case you probably need to choose „intersect“, not „substact“ Quote Mac mini M1 A2348 | Windows 10 - AMD Ryzen 9 5900x - 32 GB RAM - Nvidia GTX 1080 LG34WK950U-W, calibrated to DCI-P3 with LG Calibration Studio / Spider 5 iPad Air Gen 5 (2022) A2589 Special interest into procedural texture filter, edit alpha channel, RGB/16 and RGB/32 color formats, stacking, finding root causes for misbehaving files, finding creative solutions for unsolvable tasks, finding bugs in Apps. NotMyFault
Btw are you using designer or photo? In designer you may use the shape builder tool or knife tool, which are more capable for this type of edits. never the less Photo is sufficient. Radioastron
Hi Steve, Try using the Layer > Create Compound to combine your shapes and remove the overhang. However, you have to experiment with the compound functions after to see what works best.
Old Bruce
The Shape Builder tool may do what you want. As long as there are no 'gaps' in the rectangle objects it should work regardless of whether or not they are four separate lines or one closed curve.
