Since start of this month, all my affinity programs crash immediately after startup, The Splash Screen shows, loading fonts, closes (faster than before it started crashing) and i see a split second of the grey background of the full window before it just vanishes. I used both Affinity Photo (1.0) and Affinity Designer (1.0) without any problems and very happily before (last time I worked with them was in April, as I was out of the country in may and naturally no changs occured on my PC in the meantime) I also downloaded and tried to run Affinity Designer 2.0 Trial just to test if it works and it does the same thing. I have attached crashreports for both 1.0 programs aswell as Designer 2.0 in my thread.

Naturally before coming here I tried:
Restarting the PC, WIndows Updates, updated Affinity to teh lastest vesion via the .exe downloaded, cleared any caches, tried running it with the firewall turned off, tried running it as Administrator and maybe more stuff. It just does not work and for me there were the best and only graphics programs I used the last years, it would be a pain to search for an alternative. On my Laptop Designer just opened no problem (although it is Ver1.7.3 as I basically never use it there and never kept it up to date) so I would guess the problem lies with something on my Desktop PC. As I can neither open nor understand the Crashreports, this is now my only hope for help.

Thank you very much i advance.

Hello and thanks for the quick response,

sadly that did not fix it. it was tunred on, dunno if windows may do that automatically with an update and or I did then somewhere (although then the programs must have worked long time with it on) but turning it off, restarting and updating graphics drivers did not help sadly. Smae problem as before

Hi @Dornogol and another warm welcome to the forums,

It may be worth trying a factory reset of the apps by holding the Ctrl Key down while launching the app then when you see the 'Clear User Data' screen, leave the default options selected, hit the 'Clear' button and allow the app to finish launching to see if that makes any difference...

As @MikeTO mentions above it is quite likely to be a graphics driver issue but at least trying the factory reset will rule this in or out...

Thanks, I did not know about that feature.

Just tried it, however, I see the Factory Reset window for the same split second as the main program and it also closes before I can do anything with it.

As mentioned in my first post, I did not do any form of settings change neither on my graphics settings/driver nor anything for the last months while it still worked, so I really cannot fathom what is happening there. Wouldn't know where to change regarding my graphics settings if anything there could do any help.

As I forgot to add it to my main post, the hardware (uncahnged for atleast a year) that was running it all fine until now.

PC Hardware:
AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor
16GB Ram (DDR3 I think, 2133MHz)
Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti

OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit

Hi @Dornogol,

Thanks for trying...

You mentioned in your first post under the things you've tried that you updated Windows... it may be that in the process certain graphics drivers also need updating though I can't be sure but it would be worth checking that your PC is using the latest version of all graphics drivers...

Thanks, have already updated them this morning (yes I forgot that for some time now) but all to no avail. I hope Someone of Affinity can look ito the crashlogs to see if it shows where the proble may lie.

Hi @Dornogol,

I'm not suggesting this is a viable option but interestingly another user who seemed to be experiencing the same issue and has managed to resolve it by installing DaVinci Resolve...

Clearly, it shouldn't be necessary to do this to run the Affinity apps but I thought it worth highlighting just in case it is in any way relevant to your situation...

Just now, Dornogol said:

Thanks, he alteast gets it to run but as I am grasping at straws I definitely will try doing that xD

Let us know the outcome if you decide to try that...

I'm sure the moderation team will have some ideas as to possible causes so hopefully, you'll receive some feedback from someone in the moderation team in the coming week...

Hi @Dornogol,

I'm unsure what else to suggest, hopefully, someone from the moderation team at Serif will have some suggestions to resolve this issue...

Hi @Dornogol,

The crash reports indicate D3D9.dll as the unhandled exception, which is a component of Microsoft DirectX. Rivatuner Statistics Server was running at the time of the crash, which is an incompatible third party app which will cause the affinity apps to crash on startup due to the way it hooks into DirectX libraries. I'd suggest closing Rivatuner (perhaps also consider uninstalling it) and also check if you have any of the other known incompatible apps and close them and then try launching the apps again.

Hello @NathanC and thank you
yes I just uninstaled Rivatuner and now it works.

Apparently I was lucky then for the last years? because I had rivatuner installed and running since longer than I have affinity programs isntalled and I used them for 3-4 years now without any problems. Sad that I cannot use it as I frequently have the OSD open while gaming but I rather would be able to use Affinity Designer as I do that almost daily so it had to go.
Thanks again to everyone trying to help here and your quick response to my problem.
