Why doesn't this work in AD 2.5? shortcuts assign to both node & pen.

  1. Go to Keyboard shortcuts preferences
  2. Pen Tool from the pop-up menu
  3. Assign the following shortcuts:
    • Ctrl + Shift + Q: for Break Curve
    • Ctrl + Shift + W: for Join Curve

Affinity Suite v2.6.3, Mac Mini M2 Pro 2023, Sonoma, OS 14.1.1

Works for me. Which OS version are you running?

Hi @kat,

This shortcut is working as expected for me in Affinity on Windows - please note you need to have the Pen Tool active for these shortcuts to work.

For Break Curve, you need to have the node selected where you wish for the Curve to break, but again the Pen Tool must be active. You can select the Node using the CTRL modifier with the Pen Tool.

For Join Curve, you need to have 2 nodes selected and the Pen Tool active. Again you can use the CTRL modifier to select the first node, then whilst holding CTRL, also hold down Shift to select the second node simultaneously. Your shortcut will now 'join' the Curve, between these 2 node points.

I hope this clears things up!

At least for me on my Mac, I can select the node(s) with the Node Tool & the shortcuts work. In fact, I do not see a way to select nodes with the Pen Tool, other than by using the (on Macs) CMD key to temporarily switch to the Node Tool to select the node(s).

If you have set them for both the Pen Tool and the Node Tool, I would expect them to work in both.

That's what Dan said to do (though he may have been speaking in Windows terms).

Yes, but how do you set (select) them when just using the Pen Tool without using the modifier that in fact temporarily switches to the Node Tool, as the status bar shows, like here on Macs:

So what I think is that one way or another you have to use the Node Tool to select node to use Break Curve.

Also, for completeness, note that Join Curves is different in that you do not have to select any nodes for it to work: just select two (or more!) open curves, & with either the Pen or Node Tool selected it will join them using the nearest pair(s) of nodes to join them. That was the only option in V1 but in V2, the capability of selecting specific end nodes of two open curves was added, but it still seems to work like in V1 if more than two curves are selected.
