HiPresto Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 How do I use version 1 on my older Mac while waiting for my new machine to be configured? It's not allowing a 30-day trial, though I have never installed it before. Thanks, -HiPresto. Quote
Komatös Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 Hello @HiPresto and welcome to the forums. If you have not previously purchased version 1, there is no way to buy it as it is no longer offered by Serif. The Apple and Microsoft stores also no longer offer version 1 for purchase. Otherwise, all purchases can be found in the library of the respective store app. Quote MAC mini M4 | MacOS Sequoia 15.3.1 | 16 GB RAM | 256 GB SSD AMD Ryzen 7 5700X | INTEL Arc A770 LE 16 GB | 32 GB DDR4 3200MHz | Windows 11 Pro 24H2 (26100.3194) Affinity Suite V 2.5.7 & Beta 2.6 (latest) Interested in a free (selfhosted) PDF Solution? As I understand it, due to the app no longer being on sale it's not possible to trial V1 of the Affinity apps, our apologies. As Komatos has mentioned, if you have previously purchased V1 through the Mac App Store, you will need to download the app from there rather than using the Affinity Store install version. I hope this clears things up! Quote
HiPresto Posted June 12, 2024 Author Posted June 12, 2024 I am simply asking for a version 1 license. I have the software. I purchased a UNIVERSAL license. A universal license is backward compatible. Thanks, -HiPresto. Quote

Some universal licences may be backwards compatible, but the one for the Affinity suite is not. It was only introduced with the launch of version 2, and it only covers version 2. HiPresto Posted June 12, 2024 Author Posted June 12, 2024 I read in another thread that it was, and that was from the Affinity staff. -HiPresto. Quote

I think you may have misunderstood that thread. If you have only purchased a V2 licence, you do not have a licence for V1 and won't be able to run V1 even if you find the software. HiPresto Posted June 12, 2024 Author Posted June 12, 2024 If that is true, then this does me no good. I have a production machine that runs 10.10.5, and will never be upgraded beyond that for compatibility reasons. I read through the entire thread, and am quite sure what was said by the Affinity employee. This makes no sense. -HiPresto. Quote

A universal license is backward compatible. Universal licences are usually backwards compatible to the point where they were introduced. This is because before that point a different licencing system was used. You see this a lot in long running software. Various different licence dongles and/or software licence keys over the years. These licencing systems only work on the versions of the software they were designed into. In the case of Affinity they changed to a new "Universal" system with V2. V1 used a different system so V2 keys won't work on V2 software. Most (if not all) software companies won't sell you old versions of software. A lot of the reasons are to do with product liability and support. Old Bruce Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 @HiPresto, The compatibility you recall reading about is probably about Version 2 being able to open version 1 files/documents. As with the V2 licence files, the V1 software can't read the V2 files. So I have no idea why someone would think a new licensing system would work with older apps. emmrecs01 1 Quote www.JAmedia.uk and www.TamworthHeritage.org.uk [Win 11 | AMD Ryzen 5950X 16 Core CPU | 128GB Ram | NVIDIA 3080TI 12GB ] [MB ASUS ProArt B550| C Drive:; 1TB M2 980 Pro | D Drive; 2TB M2 970 EVO ]
