Mac Finder Tags not saved when exporting a file to jpg-format

Recommended Posts

When exporting a file to JPG-format in the second dialog I can specify/change the name of the file and select from the drop down the finder tag. Unfortunately the tag is not saved - the file is saved without a tag. The size of the files are about 4-6 MB and the original file format is JPG or NEF (out of camera).

This bug is present for many years. The problem is the same with TIFF file-format.

I use the newest version of Affinity Photo (2.5.2) on an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) with the most current macOS Big Sur Version 11.7.10 (2001427)

Since I control my workflow with Mac finder tags, this is pretty annoying.

Thank you for your efforts!

Olivier

Hi @olivierr,

I've now logged and replicated this issue with the developers, thanks for your report. During testing I found it was quite random as to whether or not the tags would export.

Finder tags save on export correctly: PDF, PSD, EPS, TGA

Finder tags fail to save on export: JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, SVG, EXR, HDR, WEBP, JXL

Hi @NathanC,

Interestingly, this also initially differs by Raster and Vector Files... When first saved I see the following (which differs from your list)...

Pure Raster Files

  • Finder tags save on export correctly: JPEG, PDF, DXF, PSD, SVG, EPS, HDR, TGA, WEBP JXL
  • Finder tags fail to save on export: PNG, GIF, TIFF, DWG, EXR

Pure Vector Files

  • Finder tags save on export correctly: PNG, JPEG, TIFF, PDF, DWG, DXF, PSD, SVG, EPS, HDR, TGA, WEBP
  • Finder tags fail to save on export: GIF, EXR, JXL

In both cases, for the file formats that fail to save with a colour tag, if I re-export the same file and overwrite the original they all now have colour tags...
