Photo 2.4.2 - Place File vs. drag&drop file - different colorspace interpretation

Recommended Posts

Using APhoto 2.4.2 on Windows 11.

Document open in Photo is 32bit.

Colorspace of that document is Rec.709 linear.

This was achieved by setting the ocio config to interpret exr files as that colorspace.

Now I like to add additional exr files to the document as new layers.

If I:

  • use the menu command [File]-[Place] the new layer is correctly interpreted as Rec.709
  • drag and drop the additional exr from the Windows Explorer into the document, the colorspace is not interpreted as Rec.709

Is this a bug or intended behaviour?

I am aware that there is [File]-[New Stack] to create a stack of multiple files at once. But there is something wrong with that, so that is not a usable option (see end of the below thread).

@cgidesignSorry for the delay.

I believe this is working as expected, using Place will correctly use the images colourspace. Click dragging from Explorer will use a different method but I'm also checking with the developers to confirm, just in case.

@Lee D

Please note that the input file is a 32bit exr for use with Affinity's ocio.

That means the colorspace depends on the file value in the ocio config. The EXR itself does not have an internal colorspace attribute.

So my guess is, that drag & drop of 32bit exr is ignoring the ocio config - question is, if this is intended.
