mr.burns
Hi,I am new to Affinity photo and want to know if in version 1.4.1 a soft mask exists? What I need is that a mask has a certain transparency at it's border. How can I give a mask lets say a 10 pixel border with transparency changes from 0% to 100%?Something like this: https://rockymountaintraining.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Photoshop_ss_006.jpg So I want to use the circular mask tool and set a smooth border of e.g. 10 pixels. How can I do that with Affinity photo? Thanks!
Staff MEB Posted May 22, 2016 Staff Share Posted May 22, 2016 Hi mr.burns, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) There's a few ways to do this. Here's one: go to the Eliptical Marquee Tool and create your selection as usual, then go to menu Select ▸ Feather... and enter 10px in the input field. Finaly click on the Mask Layer button on the bottom of the layers panel to create a mask from the selection. If you ⌥ (option/alt) click the thumbnail in the layers panel you can see the black/white mask. Another one: draw you selection with the Eliptical Marquee Tool then click Refine... button in the context toolbar, set the Feather slider to 10 px, change the Output dropdown to Mask and click Apply. Again If you ⌥ (option/alt) click the mask 's thumbnail in the layers panel you can see the black/white mask.
