Pšenda
1 hour ago, Alfred said: This is particularly relevant for a document with a transparent background Maybe I'm not interpreting the request/question correctly, but my understanding is that it's talking about a transparent image/document background that will appear either as a checkerboard or as white/another color. The reason for changing the display of background transparency is apparently the content of the image, which is not well visible on the gray-and-white checkerboard, and therefore it is advisable to change this setting according to the type/content of the document. Not at the application level, because the settings may not be appropriate for other documents and their different content. As with the layer thumbnails background settings in the Layers panel, where settings suitable for certain layers are completely unsuitable for other layers. So, in my opinion, it would be appropriate to be able to set at the document level: - the color of the background/paper (currently only white, it would be appropriate to add any other color of paper, requested many times), - transparent background displayed as a checkerboard (checkerboard parameters - the size and color of the squares would be set in the application, requested many times), - transparent background displayed as a certain color (when displaying the canvas, there will be a problem with distinguishing whether the displayed color is the background color or the transparency display method). asterix
Well, at the end, it of course also a personal opinion whether you want to use this setting in general or only for some documents. As said, I am just used to be able to disable the checkerboard on program level (see all those apps I mentioned, I mainly used Illustrator and Acrobat for years). It's less confusing and more clear on program level, because the user knows just which 1 (=one) setting he has made for the checkerboard. And there is only one place (program setting) to change it if necessary. For me (example) I never work with any checkerboard in the background and always use a white or a light grey or yellowish background (beside usability it's perhaps even more accessibility by the way). In the layers you can always see very easily which layers a document has, and normally you remember your checkerboard setting and especially if your document has a background or not. I am not sure whether this feature will be implemented. But I have a small hope because the opened PDFs in Affinity Designer just don't follow Affinity's own rules, and perhaps this will be corrected, and when the transparency issue if opened, perhaps this checkerboard option will becom real...
