...would like to access data from other apps.

Recommended Posts

Hello

I keep getting the very annoying dialogue everytime (? often for sure) I open Affinity Designer I get this message:

“Affinity Designer 2.app” would like to access data from other apps.

AFAIG (as far as I googled ;-)) it seems to be a prob of the app not the os.

Is there anything I can do/set?

Are you using macOS Sonoma? AFAICS, it’s a security-related message newly added to the OS in version 14.2. Apparently you could go to ‘System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access’ and enable access for Affinity Designer, but I’m not sure how wise that would be.

Yes, Sonoma. Thanks für your input. What would be a problem in giving AD full disk access? And most important: what is CS 😁?

I said “I’m not sure” because I don’t know what the security implications would be.

AFAICS = as far as I can see

There are several similar initialisms. Here are three that spring to mind:

AFAICR = as far as I can remember/recall
AFAICT = as far as I can tell
AFAIK = as far as I know

There may well be many more! I don’t normally use them on public forums, for precisely the reason you’ve highlighted, but it seemed appropriate to use AFAICS here in response to your AFAIG comment. YMMV, of course!! :P

Giving it full disk access essentially defeats various sandbox-related file protections, allowing AD to access virtually any file your user account can access without prompting.  I would be hesitant to grant that to some random app downloaded off the internet, but I would probably trust Serif enough to enable that for the Affinity apps if it was necessary for some reason.

Thanks, I share your opinion.
