emanuele_a
As you can see in the image i've attached, whenever i do open the resource manager window in Affinity Publisher version 2.5.0 that i've just updated, completely fills up the CPU usage, and my whole pc starts to freeze. It's even difficult to open the task manager. Waiting doesn't work. the only thing left to do is to force the closing of the app. I've tried multiple times to wait for it to load, but when it loads, even scrolling or selecting a file is impossible due to the super slowering of the pc caused by just the opening of the resource manager window. Please resolve this, because it's very hard to work on a photographic publication with 500+ images, and the resource manager impossible to work with... To be honest i've even concluded this project back in february 2024, and it haven't gave me any problem. i've reopened it today since i had to make a slightly modification. I've encountered this problem of performance only with this version 2.5.0 but never before.

emanuele_a
@walt.farrell thanks. I just went back to the 2.4.2 and it's way way better. I'm not a technician so i don't know what could be the problem of the performance issue... Anyway i'm glad i could always downgrade. I'll wait for the 2.5.

Staff NathanC Posted June 13 Staff Share Posted June 13 Hi @Intuos5, Apologies the thread wasn't tagged, but this issue raised by the OP was AF-3191 which was fixed in the 2.5.2 update.
Intuos5
Hi @NathanC When I open the resource manager in the latest Beta (2.5.2.2486) it still bricks my entire laptop (97%+ memory usage) for over a minute before I can let task manager end Publisher. So unless the fix passed by the beta, it isn't fixed on my end. For me it has now compounded in another issue where if I replace an image in a picture frame, it replaces other images too from spreads I duplicated from the original. The same applies to deleting the placed image in one frame. Without the resource manager, I can't fix this other than reworking the pages from scratch... Copying said picture frame to a new spread also gets me the same issue. - FYI I haven't accidentally placed the image on the master while linked. This issue just emerged today for a workflow I've been using for ages.

If it persists, this is more likely to either be a different localised or file specific issue. Can you also provide a copy of your document and any resources used so we can take a look? This sounds like a separate issue, please create a separate bug report and include all relevant steps to replicate, a sample file and perhaps a screen recording. Thanks @NathanC What I can note is that after a system reboot and Windows update, when I open the resource manager in 2.5.2486, it leads to Windows hard crashing and my laptop instantly shuts down. There isn't really anything useful AFAICT in Event Viewer, added the Publisher crash report below:bf19741c-f303-4c20-a9c5-7008104a1395.dmp In 2.4.2 the resource manager is near instant still. On the other issue, in the resource manager in 2.4.2 I could see the issue was in the master page after all, but curiously not one that is associated with the page in question (other than that I copied a frame from a page with the master applied over to another spread). I've uploaded the file, I trust you handle it with care.

That should mean you have a Windows system error of some sort, or a driver (GPU) error, or a hardware error. Windows doesn't let user-mode applications (such as the Affinity applications) crash the system. But drivers can. Rolling back to version 2.4.2. in the version 2.5 as I said when opening the resource manager the whole pc completely slows down to the point of freezing, due to the complete overload of the CPU. @NathanC And as i said i don't have a super PC (Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz 2.81 GHz - RAM 32gb - Windows 10 Home - Nvidia gtx 1050 16gb) with the latest windows 10 update. Well, that hasn't happened in 2.4.2 and is specifically related to opening the resource manager in 2.5.X, which used to only freeze my laptop. I haven't changed my drivers, so logically it shouldn't be a driver issue if it is Affinity specific in my mind. emanuele_a

Staff NathanC Posted June 18 Staff Share Posted June 18 Hi @Intuos5, Thanks for sending over your file and resources, I'm also running into this same issue with high CPU and RAM usages upon opening resource manager in 2.5.2 with it being essentially unworkable in the manager dialog on this large a file. While comparatively v2.4.2 is running completely fine with expected usages. I was originally under the interpretation that this was addressed in the 2.5.2 Publisher threading issues fix since the OP had not replied since, but evidently not. I'll get this logged with the developers for further investigation, thanks for raising it again. On 6/14/2024 at 11:33 AM, Intuos5 said: it leads to Windows hard crashing and my laptop instantly shuts down. Walt is correct, the affinity apps are user-mode applications so they are not capable of causing a system crash/BSOD. The Affinity apps may have been the trigger for the crash likely due to the high Memory and/or CPU usage and also the fact that the apps utilise kernel-mode drivers, but the apps themselves won't be the cause. This will be an underlying system issue (E.G Driver issues, Windows Corruption, or Hardware issues such as unstable RAM/CPU Overclock) System Event Viewer may reveal more but it does vary.
