Affinity Publisher 2.5.0 Locks Book File Chapters

Recommended Posts

When I open a book file, and then click on a chapter in the book file, the first file I tried to open does open, but it is locked and cannot be edited. Same thing with the second file I tried.

I have also tried opening the same file directly, but it remains locked.

Closing the chapter file makes Affinity Publisher freeze.

The third or fourth time I tried open the chapter file by clicking on it in the book file, I got a message that AP is updating page numbers, then the program froze.

Since the message I get when I open the chaper file says "The selection is locked...", I tried unlocking all layers. It does not work.

You get tha message by simply opening the chapter file? That seems odd.

I'm having trouble with Affinity Publisher 2.5.0 locking non-book pub files.  It is doing it so regularly and causing publisher crashes when I trie to open a locked file with an unlocked file to copy between the two that it has become unusable.  I tried the beta 2.5.2.2486 and the locking issue went away and it is much more stable.

Hi @HenrikM,

Can you please check if any of the chapter .afpub files also have a hidden  ~lock~ version of the document.

Publisher creates a lock file when I open the document. It does not remove the lock file when I close the document.

However, removing the lock file manually makes no difference.

Pub is locking my book files over and over for no reason, totally pissing me off. I can't publish the book because 1 - 3 files keep locking. I'm even duping the file, deleting the old one, etc. How did you get the beta?

I'm having the exact same experience. I have closed, reopened the app, duped the files, etc. The problem can "go away" after a reboot but the minute I try to export as PDF, some random number of files, 2-5 out of 20, lock up.

I finally redownloaded 2.4.3 after this issue on 2.5, and even 2.5.x beta which I just tried, and 2.4.3 worked perfect the first time.

I want my 3 hours back.

This problem remains after the lock files visible in finder on mac go away, even after closing the app. Once a file has locked in the book view one time, it will "lock" again even if you reboot and don't see a lock initially. It shows back up especially if you try to export the book as PDF. It will be chugging along seeming good with preflight green checks, then a certain chapter will be skipped and you'll see a lock, and every time you try to restart the app and export, that same file will lock again. I have duped the file, deleted original, renamed the dupe to old file name, and it will still lock up again.

Tried the latest beta, same thing. Finally got 2.4.3 again and it worked perfectly first try with no issues on the same files that were locking.

I reinstalled 2.4.2, and now I can edit the chapter file again.
