AcousticPond
Hello, everyone. Newbie here. I've been an Illustrator user for many, many years, and although I'm currently subscribed to Adobe Creative Cloud, I'd like to find an alternate vector program to save myself the monthly subscription fees. I've heard many good things about Affinity Designer, and I thought I'd give it a shot. My main reason for using a vector program is to use the pen tool to freehand vector my sketches to turn them into graphics. I do use it for other purposes, but I'd say 75% of what I do involves the pen tool. I apologize in advance for possibly not knowing the correct terminology for what I'm about to describe, but I've been doing it for so long I don't remember the 'official' names for many of the processes. In Illustrator, when using the pen tool to create a sharp corner (tribal artwork would be a good example), I start by clicking once to create an anchor point, then I click again to create a second anchor point, thus drawing a line between the two anchor points. Then, I right-click the second anchor point to control how the line draws next (I can get a sharp corner if needed). This seems to not work at all in AD. Right-clicking does not modify the anchor point, and I can't get a corner. The line always bends outward in a curve. I've tried shift-clicking, CTRL-clicking, ALT-clicking and CMD-clicking the anchor point (both right-click and left-click), and nothing is working. Without this feature, I can't use the program. Can anyone who's switched from Illustrator tell me how to edit the anchor point to create a sharp corner with the pen tool? Thanks!
Staff Callum Posted May 19, 2016 Staff Share Posted May 19, 2016 Hi AcousticPond, Welcome to the Forums ! With the Pen Tool or the Node Tool selected holding Alt and clicking an anchor point should turn it into a sharp corner. You will know when this has happened as the node will become a square :) If for some reason that doesn't work you can turn the node into a sharp node by clicking the Sharp button in the Convert menu (see attached) I hope this helps :) C Quote Please tag me using @ in your reply so I can be sure to respond ASAP. Crimson Designs
is it possible to assign a hotkey to this action? Because if there is I didn't see it in the Hotkey Preferences
