chuck902
Hello, I'm trying to figure out the most efficient way to do this process. I have all three Affinity programs so I can use which ever one is appropriate. I want to select the subject in a photo and save out a vector path. Preferably as a SVG file. I can start with the subject on a transparent background if that's better. I'm trying to set up a cut path for my laser cutter to cut the shape that will then be printed. My end goal is something like this photo. (Not Mine) I'm currently using an old version of Photoshop and my workflow is this. Make a careful selection of the desired subject. Save selection as a path. Export paths to Illustrator. Export from Illustrator as a SVG. Any ideas on the best workflow using Affinity products? Thanks!
firstdefence
Use the pen tool to draw a path (Affinity call it a curve) around the subject, you can then export that path/curve out as an SVG file. Affinity Photo will be fine for this task. Just a note, you cannot make a path/curve from a pixel selection in Affinity. chuck902
Thanks @firstdefence I thought about that but I would have to learn how to draw paths. 🙄 Even once I got reasonably good, it seems like it would take some time to do.

It wouldn't take that long, I drew around the puppy in about 2-3 mins. chuck902
Any recommendations for lessons for someone that has never really drawn paths?

Alot of this video can be applied to Affinity Photo as well. but you can do the same thing with a photo in Designer, I think Affinity Designer would probably be a better match for your usage because it lends itself to vectors.
