abarkalo Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 Every time I save and reopen an Affinity Publisher file, I get the annoying "Open Recovery File" prompt to which I respond "don't open recovery file" and then everything seems to work normally. If I don't save the document and am asked to save after clicking to close the document, and am presented with a "save changes" dialog then the Open Recovery File prompt won't appear on the next re-open. But if I make changes to the document, then CMD-S save, then that recovery file dialog appears next time - it's really annoying. I've tried clearing using data, reinstalling Affinity Publisher v2.5 several times, deleting containers -- all the above. But this problem continues. Nothing seems to be apparently wrong with my files or the V2.5 app - it runs smoothly - but this dialog is really not great. I suspect it's because I tried the V2.5 beta before but then removed it. This is when this crazy behavior started. But I'm only running the non-beta version and there is no beta or its folders on my system. Alex Quote
walt.farrell Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 Probably another version of AF-2894, which they thought they'd fixed but decided the fix was incomplete. RichardR Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 I'm still seeing this as an issue too. I've downloaded the beta version 2.5.2 and same issue sadly. Guess this is maybe still being worked on. Quote
Staff Lee D Posted May 28, 2024 Staff Posted May 28, 2024 @abarkalo We do still have some outstanding issues regarding the Open Recovery File prompt. It would be helpful if you could provide me with a screen recording (full screen) showing your workflow, starting with opening a file upto receiving the prompt again so I may confirm. Quote
RichardR Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 This is what happens on my Mac, using version 2.5.0 but it's exactly the same on the beta version 2.5.2. I open the file, all ok, close it, then reopen (without closing Affinity) and it shows the recovery file issue. Recovery file issue.mov Quote
Staff Lee D Posted May 28, 2024 Staff Posted May 28, 2024 @RichardR Thanks for the recording. If you use File > Close and not the X do you get the prompt? Quote
RichardR Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 hi, the prompt does not appear if I use File > Close 🤔 Quote
Foomandoonian Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 Just to add that I've been having exactly the same problem with Affinity Designer since the last update. Also MacOS. Quote
Staff Affinity Info Bot Posted June 18, 2024 Staff Posted June 18, 2024 The issue "Document Recovery prompt appears after certain dialogs/panels are initialised" (REF: AF-3158) has been fixed by the developers in internal build "2.6.0.2519". This fix should soon be available as a customer beta and is planned for inclusion in the next customer release. Customer beta builds are announced here and you can participate by following these instructions. If you still experience this problem once you are using that build version (or later) please reply to this thread including @Affinity Info Bot to notify us. MikeTO and Jonesy21 2 Quote
Thomahawk Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 I have the same with Designer 2.5.2 I save a file using command-s then close it, when I open it again, every time "recovery file" message comes up. I suppose it has to do with command-s not really saving the file. Because some times, after command-s and trying to close the files, the "save the document?" dialogue comes up. I click save and next time opening it, no recovery message comes up. Quote
Thomahawk Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 I just installed 2.5.3 and the problem is still here. I have it EVER TIME I save a document, close it and open it again! I have it on MacOS 14.5 with Designer and publisher 2.5.3 This is not about a problem because of moving a page or a document. This happens without moving or anything. This is a problem with saving in general. Any way of saving, then closing the document and opening again, EVERY TIME the recovery dialogue comes up. Quote

Hangman Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 Hi @Thomahawk, The Document Recovery Prompt bug is still prevalent in version 2.5.3 and can be triggered in numerous ways... but, as per the Affinity Info Bot above has been fixed by the developers in internal build "2.6.0.2519" which we should see via the upcoming v2.6 Beta release... Karen S Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 I am having the same issue. Almost every time I open any of the suite (having previously saved and closed down correctly), I get the Recovery prompt. I am glad to see that this is not just my problem but it would be good to have it fixed. Thanks. Quote
Hangman Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Hi @Karen S and welcome to the forums, We will 'hopefully' see a fix for this issue in the upcoming v2.6 Beta release, though that has yet to be confirmed... Cooner Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 I'm relieved to see this is a known bug, because it's been driving me crazy, mostly in Designer (2.5.3), for awhile now. Hopefully the fix will be coming in 2.6. ❤️ Quote
jamesbowtine Posted August 23, 2024 Posted August 23, 2024 +1 for this ... every time I save in any of the Affinity Suite, the next time I open, it's 'Open Recovery File' ... which obviously leaves me in doubt what precisely is getting opened and when I archive stuff, will it work in the future. jamesbowtine Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 Understood, just posting that the very recent update this morning didn't yield a fix (just in case it appeared randoml before 2.6.0). What on earth is the Affinity Info Bot? Quote
