Issue with Numeric Fields and Text Resizing Not Working in Affinity Designer 2.5 on MacOS

Recommended Posts

Hello Affinity Users!

I recently updated to Affinity 2.5 on my MacBook Pro M2 Pro and have encountered a significant issue that affects my workflow. Previously, I was able to adjust the values in numeric fields (such as font size, line height, letter spacing, etc.) by scrolling with the mouse over the input fields. This functionality seems to have stopped working after the update, despite confirming that the mouse scroll option is enabled in the software settings under the ‘Tools’ section.

So in short terms, using the mouse scroll no longer dynamically adjusts the font size as it previously did. I have to manually enter the font size or use the corner handles without any real-time size adjustment, which is not ideal for my design process. I also tested this functionality in all Affinity apps, Publisher, Designer and Photo, and encountered the same issue across all these applications. It appears to be a systemic problem affecting multiple software under the Affinity suite on MacOS.

Could you please look into these issues? Any guidance on whether this is a known issue and if there are any workarounds or upcoming fixes would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I can't duplicate this problem on my MacBook Pro with 2.5 with the scroll wheel of a Logitech mouse. What type of mouse are you using?

Hey guys! Thanks for trying to help! So, I’m currently using an Apple Magic Mouse (2nd gen), the one with a lightning port.

I've just replicated this with a Magic Mouse.  I'll get this logged with the Developers :)

I'm curious, I've never been able to adjust the values in any fields with a mouse scroll using a magic mouse in any versions of the Affinity apps so I'm trying to understand how this was possible in prior versions as there are no obvious System or Affinity settings that permit this...

Hey Hangman! It’s interesting to hear that you’ve never been able to use the mouse scroll for adjusting values in Affinity apps. In my previous experience, I was able to adjust numerical values such as font size and line spacing by hovering over the input fields and using the scroll function on my mouse. This was quite convenient for fine-tuning adjustments without the need to click into each field.

Hey, Stokerg!

Thanks for checking this out and for flagging it with the developers! It’s awesome to know it’s being looked into. I did a bit more testing on my end. Tried it with a Magic Mouse 2 and my MacBook Pro M2 14”, but no luck there. However, when I plugged in an old-school mouse with a physical scroll wheel, everything worked just fine. It’s kind of funny how it doesn’t play nice with the Magic Mouse or the Mac’s built-in trackpad. Thanks again for your help! Looking forward to any updates or tips the devs might share.

I was just about to mention it doesn't work with the trackpad either which seems very strange...

Hey Serif Staff, any news?

I'd like to know where can I download the older version (2.4), since the bug hasn't been fixed yet, I'm really struggling to use the way I need, so I'm gonna downgrade to 2.4 and wait the new update.

@stokerg: Did this get logged? I don't see a bug tag on this topic.
