Albert Lazzarini
I could not find any documentation on how the Affinity Photo 2 stacking algorithm works. In particular, I have a telescope on an alt/az mount. If I take short exposures, they are individually unburied, but the frame will rotate slightly from image to image. Does stacking take care of alignment and rotation of multiple images? Staff James Ritson Posted May 23 Staff Share Posted May 23 Hi @Albert Lazzarini, are you using calibration frames, particularly dark frames to remove hot/stuck pixels? The stacking can be confused and sometimes try to align on these instead of genuine star detail. Ideally, a master dark frame should be built (this happens automatically when you supply dark frames) and subtracted from each light frame so alignment on the star detail can be achieved. It would be worth asking if you can either supply the original files or post a quick preview image of one of the light frames so we can see what the issue might be. Albert Lazzarini
Hi @JamesR, I am using 5 dark frames and before I stack I used the Bad Pixel Map Tool to detect and flag them. I am happy to share the imagery, but the ARWs are rather large. How can I send them to you? Do you also want the dark frames? The setup I used was a Sony ILCE6000 directly connected to an f/10 telescope with FL of 2500mm. I used bulb setting with an intervalometer to take 20s exposures. Thanks for your assistance. BTW: is there a workflow instruction on how to use the Astrophotgraphy Stack option? I am new to this and it would be really useful if there were a succinct how-to.
