Affinity Photo 2 for macOS - (2.5.0 & 2.5.1)

We are pleased to announce an update for the macOS release of Affinity Photo 2, version 2.5.0

The changes in Affinity Photo 2 for macOS 2.5.0 are listed in this FAQ forum thread:

Those are the changes made since the last release Affinity Photo 2 for macOS 2.4.2

To get notified when any new releases are made please follow the latest releases thread by clicking here

UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (which is free for all V2 users)

The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in application menu, Affinity Photo > About).

If you’ve purchased from the Mac App Store— updates are done automatically next time you run your software after it is available in the Mac App Store. If this does not happen for you, open the Mac App Store app and go to the Updates page and then Store > Reload page or press CMD+R. This should hopefully force the update to show. Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world which can mean it may take up to 72 hours for your update to be available.

If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the software it will check for updates and offer to download and install any available update, or in the application main menu there is an option Check for Updates. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "download" button in there. Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Photo for macOS) can be downloaded from this link (that installer is NOT for Mac app store purchases, which update through the Mac App Store).

Tell us the difference between 2.5.0 and 2.5.1

2.5.0 is the Affinity Store build and 2.5.1 is the Mac app store build which is identical except for a single change get the software licence to be accepted. So once up and running, they are the same

I have version 2.3.1.  When I start it, I get the attached that says 2.2.5.1 is available.  This leads to two questions.  1) Why doesn't the built in upgrader upgrade me directly to 2.5?  2)  Isn't 2.2.5.1 an earlier version than 2.3.1?

That is Affinity Photo 2, version 2.5.0, not 2.2.5.0.

2.5.0 is the latest version except for those who installed from the Apple App Store, they have 2.5.1 to fix an App Store-specific issue.

Not the first time this issue has come up! Potential confusion could easily be averted by including the word ‘version’ (or even just ‘v’) before the ‘2.5.0’ in the notification.

Actually, looking again at the notification I see that at the top it says “A new version of Affinity Photo 2 is now available!” So all it needs to say below that is “Version 2.5.0 is now available — you have 2.3.1.”

Alfred,

Is the '2' in Affinity Photo 2, the same '2' in Version 2.5.0?  Was there ever an Affinity Photo 2 Version 1.x.x available?  I am assuming the answers are yes, and no.  So why not just say Affinity Photo 2.5.0? I.E. just call the program Affinity Photo?  I can only assume Affinity Photo 2 was such big upgrade from Affinity Photo, they wanted the 2 in there to differentiate which program you were referring to.

Yeah, this odd "2 2.x.x" numbering scheme in the Software Update dialog is also always giving me a "face palm" moment.

@Patrick Connor, could this be solved less confusingly, please?

MacBookAir 15": MacOS Ventura > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // MacBookPro 15" mid-2012: MacOS El Capitan > Affinity v1 / MacOS Catalina > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // iPad 8th: iPadOS 16 > Affinity v2
