Applying a stroke effect to a group with a transparent object breaks the effect

If I add a stroke effect to a group that contains a transparent object the layer effect is broken.

Steps to reproduce
1. Add a dark rectangle for contrast
2. Add an ellipse shape on top
3. Set the ellipse to a screen blend mode and give it 30% opacity
4. Group the ellipse and apply a layer effect to the group
5. Set the effect to outline, make the colour white and set the stroke position to the inside of the object
6. Notice how the entire object is filled when the outline width is shifted beyond 1 px.
