Wanderer974 Posted May 15, 2024 Posted May 15, 2024 Hello, I create T-Shirt design atm in AFD & i often use the luminosity layer mode to match/follow the underlying T-Shirt color & have this typical luminosity style. But when I flatten inside AFD or export a pixel image, all i get is a normal PNG file with no mode applied. Is it normal ? Or is there a way to do it ? ATM, only fix i've found is to pick the colors from the luminosity mode & then apply them in normal mode...but it can just work with simple design. Feels really strange, cause it defeat the purpose of layer mode to me. Like i can make variation of a design just by changing modes. Thx.
walt.farrell Posted May 15, 2024 Posted May 15, 2024 Can you provide a sample .afdesign file so we can see what you're starting with before you do the Export, and the exported PNG file? Or at least screenshots of both (including the Layers panel for the .afdesign file). -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop 1: Windows 11 Pro 24H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. Wanderer974 Posted May 15, 2024 Author Posted May 15, 2024 Hello Walt, Here's an example of what i want to do (bottom to top), in this case i want a final blueish Horn PNG: 1. Original Vector File + Luminosity layer mode 2. flatten iMG + layer mode > at this step, flattening the IMG should/could embed the mode ? 3. Exported PNG...which loose the layer mode > i got a normal blend mode file. Is there a way to export straight with the effect of the layer mode embedded ? I just made a test with a copy of the shape filled with blue under the original shape then export to PNG...it works but it is tedious. And i'm not sure it will work with more complex work. The point is to be able to export with a different bkg color easily. Layer Mode-Test.afdesign walt.farrell 1
Old Bruce Posted May 15, 2024 Posted May 15, 2024 This might get you closer to what you want. Layer Mode-Test redone bruce.afdesign Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
Wanderer974 Posted May 15, 2024 Author Posted May 15, 2024 Hey Bruce, Thx for the input, looks like my attempt with an underlying colored mask...it works, still it seems we can't export an image with a blend mode just in 1-clic. Guess i'll settle for this for now, but on complex image it won't work sadly.

You can, and I suspect that you're using the wrong Export options, as @Return has suggested. It would help to have the actual .afdesign document, not one made up with different items as you provided, and if we can see the Export settings you were using, too. -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop 1: Windows 11 Pro 24H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. Wanderer974 Posted May 16, 2024 Author Posted May 16, 2024 Ok, Here's the original files. You can see on the AFD file & Luminosité.png the result I'm looking for. - Monkey-Export.png > straight export from the file menu to PNG, set to selection only > no layer mode embedded. - Luminosité & Pixel-Export are exports from the export persona. The problem is i just need the design export, no T-Shirt in the background. And if you import any of the 2 export, you'll see they are in normal blend mode, hence blue. I need to send the yellow version to the printer. I don't understand why when i flatten (or export) the image the blend mode is not embedded. I haven't seen any option for this or maybe it's not possible. Monkey-Export-Test.afdesign
Wanderer974 Posted May 16, 2024 Author Posted May 16, 2024 Ok, got it. all solutions seems to imply mask, didn't know this way & the marching ants thingy 🙂 Will try on other designs. Thanks again 🙂 Done 1
