Issue in Affinity Photo when painting around edges of objects

Recommended Posts

 Hi,

I am a novice with this software so apologies if I am not explaining myself properly.

But as an example of the issue I am having I have currently added a lens blur layer to my photo, I have then inverted it and I am painting in the areas I want to be blurred. But when I get near to the edge of a object a strange effect is appearing. I.E if I paint near to a darker edge it seems to be pulling the colour over almost creating a shadow affect and visa versa with lighter objects.

I have attached a couple of photos to help explain, I have seen this effect when I have been painting with other effects not just the lens blur.

Any advise as to what is happening here and how I can clear this up would be appreciated.

Have you by any chance checked "wet edges" in the context toolbar?
Or, if you dial down the hardness slider of the brush, does that help?
