stuck
Can Serif comment on why the new 'switch to' feature in DxO NIK Collection 7 doesn't work in Affinity Photo?
j3rry
Translation DeepL: I am pretty sure that the creation of additional layers in AP is not possible or allowed with a plugin. That's why it wasn't possible to use the perspective plugin in Nik6. And that's what the NIK Collection does with PS as host, if I understood the YT videos correctly. So the problem is a design feature of Photo. In which case it sounds like his feature is not likely to become available in Photo any time soon, if ever. Staff MEB Posted May 9 Staff Share Posted May 9 Hi @stuck, Affinity Photo only supports basic image plugin filters using the selected pixel layer as input. Any plugins requiring app commands, panels, automation, whatever are not supported. Staff MEB Posted May 9 Staff Share Posted May 9 Hi stuck, Yes, it's unlikely this will become available any time soon. I wouldn't say never though. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software

I’d love to keep your hopes alive, but I feel I should point out that Serif PhotoPlus only ever supported ‘Effects’ plugins. Umm, sorry but if even a staff member who uses plugins only has hopes for this improvement then I even more sure it's more likely to be never than ever 😄 Westerwälder

I meant generic image filter improvements/support for more image plugins. Sorry for not being clear. Alfred
3 minutes ago, MEB said: Yes, I'm aware of this but I meant compatibility/support for a few more image plugins, not full Photoshop API/plugin support. That won't happen. I see. I thought the discussion had widened to include other types of plugins such as the ‘Automation’ plugins that you mentioned. Staff MEB Posted May 9 Staff Share Posted May 9 No, I don't believe we will ever support other type of plugins as all of them rely on Photoshop APIs and due to apps differences. Alfred 1 Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software

AP is not a PhotoShop clone & as @MEB mentioned does not have the same APIs. Goofy
I am using the NIK Collection as well, and I'd love to see such a feature built into Affinity Photo. Let's hope more users would love to see this coming to Affinity Photo. EDIT: Oops, I think, I have found what I am looking for: Under menu 'Filters' > 'Plugins', there I have found the sub-menu 'NIK Collection 7' and it does the switching back-and-forth what I have been looking for.
