Different layers with opacity

Recommended Posts

Hey,

i have different layers with different objects. Each object has an opacity.

I want to place the objects behind each other so they are partly intersected.

The intersected areas have an doubled or accordingly higher color intensity.

For that I am new with affinity, i couldn't find a way to solve my problem.

I hope anybody can help me! Thanks in advance!

I am not sure I understand what you are asking for, so forgive me if I get it wrong.

My guess is that what you are looking for is a result of using the blend modes.

There are many options, so I will only show one.

In my example screen shot I have an overlapping heart, rotating around a circle in 30 degree spaces.

Each heart has a color offset by the same degree of rotation.

I set all layers at 50% opacity, and in this case I used the Multiply blend mode.

You can see the overlapping sections have different colors dictated by the blend mode, and layer position.

If this wasn't what you were asking for, I apologize in advance.  Good luck.

Thanks for your help!

I should have attached a file earlier to clarify my problem!

I guess it is a certain blend mode that I am looking for.

The building in the front should be shown completely, whereas the buildings in the background should be shown only partly.

Only the building in the front should be shown in the intersections.

Is there a way I can achieve this with the blend modes and an opacity?

Thank you for your kind reply! :)

If the building in front is completely opaque and the buildings in the background are only partly opaque, then the building in front will be shown completely and the buildings in the background will be shown only partly, but I suspect that isn't quite what you meant!

Applying a blend mode will mean that overlapping pixels will be blended together, so you won't ever get only the building in front shown in the intersections. If you apply the 'Screen' blend mode to each building, or only to the one in front, then you will see part of each building (as if both are semi-opaque) where they overlap.

Hi Jonas,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

Do the following:

- place the front building group on the top of the layers stack

- place the "middle" group in the middle of the layers stack

- place the background building group on the bottom of the layers stack

- group all the three groups and change the opacity of the main group (highlighted in the screenshot) instead of the individual building groups. In my example i've set it to 52%.

I've used different colours for each building group to make it more clear how it will work regarding transparency.
