Affinity Design and turning wheel.

This started today. Nothing changed, not a new OS, nothing. And suddenly, I was making a drawing (pen tool, a certain line) I stopped with the pen tool, then the wheel started turning. I couldn't stop it, I had to force quit the iMac.

Started again (my drawing was lost), made the drawing with te pen tool, and again the turning wheel. 3 times, and now it's impossible to work with AD on 10.11.4 from today. On an other partition I have 10.11.5, no problem with AD.

Who can help me?

Hi iMac1943,

 

Please could you try holding down the CTRL key while opening the program a reset menu should appear. If you click Select All and then Clear the program will reset to defaults. This should hopefully resolve your issue :)

Thank you Callum, but I don't know if Affinity is the problem. I posted this on a Apple group:

This happens on an external SSD drive ( I keep my internal HD for 10.11.5 tests) 
Normaly when I switch on the iMac from the SSD it takes maybe 10" to start, that's why I have this SSD. But now it takes 3 or 4 minutes to start up the SSD. Not normal! What 's the reason? I have the SSD for 6 months. Should I re-install the OS? And if so, how do I do that? 
All advice is welcome"

Well, I don't know because I didn't open any other app. Fact is, after restarting it took too long to start up. As I said, normally it takes seconds to start up the SSD and now it took several minutes. I was afraid I should have lost data.

And when starting up Affinity from the internal HD, I had no problem. Can something be wrong with the (6 months old) SSD?

Its possible that something could be wrong with it ,but you might be better off speaking to someone who specialises in Mac hardware just to be sure :)

iMac1943,

 

As a first step in troubleshooting your problem, I suggest opening Disk Utility & running its 'First Aid' step on your SSD.

 

As you probably know, OS X 10.11.5 is still in beta. Since the Apple legal agreement (pdf version here) for OS X beta testers specifies that it should be used "solely for testing and evaluation purposes," it would be safest to run the version of Disk Utility included with the beta you are using while booted from that same version (ideally from a different startup disk than the SSD) & only on disks with that same version installed on them.

 

In other words, don't run the version of Disk Utility included with 10.11.4 on beta 10.11.5 disks & visa versa.

 

Ideally, you should not even be running the beta on any Mac used for anything other than for testing, but if you must, it is best to keep the beta startup disk from accessing the 10.11.4 one as much as possible, for example by preventing the beta from mounting the 10.11.4 one at startup (doable with a custom fstab file you must create in /etc) or by unmounting it ASAP after startup.

 

EDIT: Do not confuse the fstab file with the existing fstab.hd file that already exists in /etc, or believe those who say fstab is not supported in recent versions of OS X. It is supported even in 10.11.x & I use it routinely to prevent certain volumes from mounting at startup time.

Thank you for your reply. In fact the problem occures on 10.11.4, on an external SSD. The internal HD is only for testing 10.11.5. Affinity is working perfect on the testing OS.

But the OS on the SSD became worse. Starting up became impossible. For the moment I am re-installing 10.11.4 on the SSD. I hope the problem will be solved.

So are you saying that the problem occurs with any external SSD you boot from, regardless of the OS version installed on it?

 

If so, this suggests a hardware problem of some sort, perhaps in the USB or Thunderbolt interface chain used to connect the drive to the Mac.
