If the hyperlinks were created automatically, they will be updated. But everything that you changed manually in the TOC after its generation will be lost if you update the TOC.

How do you create them automatically. I used the hyperlink panel to create them.

From Affinity documentation:

Any TOC or index that is generated will automatically create hyperlinks to page references.

That's from the Hyperlinks Panel page in the Help: https://affinity.help/publisher2/en-US.lproj/pages/Panels/hyperlinksPanel.html

 @walt.farrell @Oufti,

I have a couple questions regardin the TOC hyperlinks and Hyperlinks panel.

The documentation says that the TOC will automatically create hyperlinks to page references.
But if you invoke the hyperlinks panel after generating the table of contents, there will be no trace of these hyperlinks.
I used "All Spreads" + "All Types" or "Anchor" to specify the area and type of hyperlinks I want to display, and there's nothing there.

For sure they have been created, as can be seen on the pages by the anchor symbol stuck to the first letter of the chapter headings, but they are missing in the "hyperlinks" panel. Is it normal?

In my opinion, if they were created byt the TOC, they should be listed in the "Hyperlinks" panel, and what's more, after updating the TOC, they should also be updated in the Hyperlinks panel in case the page reference or name would change.

Is there something I don't understand how it works? Is this a poor implementation or maybe a bug?

As far as I know that's normal. They are neither created nor managed by the user, so there's no reason to have them in that panel.

It's by design. The hyperlinks from the TOC and cross-references are not listed in the hyperlinks panel because you cannot edit them. You can turn hyperlinks for the TOC and cross-references on or off but you can't edit them so there's no need to clutter up the hyperlinks panel with them.

There's nothing you need to do. Just generate your TOC and then export to PDF and include hyperlinks.

And, @kat, if you want to use the hyperlinks from within Afpub, just right-click on any line of the TOC and choose to 'go to the hyperlink target', i.e. the corresponding anchor in the body text.

They are listed in the (by default hidden) Window > References > Anchor panel, where it's possible to change individually which will be exported as bookmarks in PDF or not.

  • In one document I have created 1st page as calendar page with months and days.
  • Each day's element on this page is linked with hyperlinks to other pages in this document for every day. On every daily pages top is anchor text as date.
  • Everything is working fine. Links and TOC anchors are working. Index text field on 1st page is hidden as not needed.
  • BUT when I replace all daily pages in same document (it was one small mistake was in text) I lose all hyperlinks to anchors. I have updated TOC and anchors are in the same place.

How to fix this small problem, not to relinkig as new all 365 days? I don't want to do this for one small mistake in one word.

ps. Every daily page is generated from Excel with data merge manager in seperate document and after added or replaced in main document!!

pss. I tested now also with Books menu, links also are broken, afer new pages ar generated with Data merge.
