why are the colours so different when added to affinity designer?

I'm hoping someone can help me, I'm a newbie really although i've been using Affinity Designer for a couple of years- just teaching myself really.  I opened it last week and every picture that i added with the little picture tab thing was completely off, like the colours all looked bluish? i thought i had an issue and ended up uninstalling it. couldnt re install from the original download so paid again for affinity2.  Now, the issue is still the same and i need help SO badly.  The picture should be the black dog but as you can see, its not and i dont know what i'm doing wrong when i'm doing the same as before.  

Any help is so much appreciated.

What is the source of the pictures? In particular, are they RAW images from a digital camera (and if so, which make and model)?

thankyou so much for the reply.  The pictures are all from my samsung a52s, the same phone ive had since i originally bought and started using affinity.

i tried re installing the original from my account downloads and it just kept popping up with repair every time i tried to run it. in the end i figured i couldnt do that after a couple of years so i bought the affinity designer 2.

That usually means you are re-running the installer, while the application is already installed, rather than running the installed application.

Hi @sjacobs2602 and welcome to the forums,

If you go to File > Document Setup could you confirm which Colour Format and Colour Profile you have set in your Affinity Designer Document...

It seems unlikely that you would have been able to run it if you hadn’t downloaded it properly! What icons did you expect to see?

They 'should' become visible once you've created a New Document...

Are the images you've photographed on your Samsung A52s JPEG (as per your uploaded image) or RAW files?

sorry for the crappy pic- but the icons on the top row are there but not usable?  I'm the least techy person ever

i believe they are jpeg images.

Most screenshotting tools allow you to make a rectangular selection.

nope, i've done the new document multiple times and they're still not 'there'  Bugger knows what i'm doing wrong.

Could you also confirm the Colour Profile set for your Monitor... The screengrab you uploaded showing the toolbar looks as though it has the same issue as your photo so I suspect this is a Windows setting issue rather than an Affinity Designer issue (though they may be one in the same)...

I've not changed any settings on my pc since i set it up out of the box,  when i use design space for cricut i have no isses with the colour being different so it has to be just affinity. yes it's weird because the whole of Affinity looks off with the colours- but no other programs do.  I'm sorry for being such a pain, this is probably a really simple fix

It is... if you click on the Windows HD Colour Settings link, can you post a screenshot of those settings?

it doesnt allow me to change them.  but the colours of your logo in the back are nice and bright, same as everything else i use or have on here. like if i open a photo, the colours are what they should be, but in affinity they go blue.  I tried a different image and that did the same too.

I managed to download the first affinity again and it actually worked this time and the same thing happens with that too.  like the whole of affinity is off with the blue tinge to it.

Thanks for confirming...

I'm at a slight loss as to possible causes if you're only seeing this issue with Affinity apps but I'm hoping others reading this post may have some other thoughts and ideas for possible causes...

I was going to suggest turning the Night light Setting off but it looks as though it's timed and it would likely affect how the image appears in other apps anyway so I think that's a non-starter...

Welcome to the Affinity Forums @sjacobs2602 & sorry to hear you're having trouble!

I suspect this is due to the Dell colour profile, which is likely applied to your monitor through Windows Colour Management settings.

Please see the below FAQ for steps on how to change the profile applied to your monitor, changing this to the default sRGB profile should hopefully stop this issue from occurring -

For example, these are the settings I'm using on my machine for my monitors:
